Why in the world would Microsoft announce there'd only be a single RC? After Vista, wouldn't they want to get this one "right", no matter how many RCs it takes?

As far as I know no virtual software supports Aero so you will be missing out on the new aero features

They haven't announced the release date for RTM or even the RC, the only thing they've said is something to the tune of "by three years after general availablity of Vista." That's January 2007. They still have plenty of time to tinker with the beta before they even release the RC.

I'm installing it on my netbook now to replace the linux it came with. I am still on 7000 on my main machine, depending on how this goes I may switch it over as well.

X64 can now be found in the usual places.

Where might that be??? I don't trust torrents.

Windows 7 Beta
Sorry, Windows 7 Beta downloads are no longer available. You can still register for a product key or look up the key you've already gotten.

So...is everyone liking this beta so far?
I've downloaded, but not yet fixed a partition for it.

Damn it. I like 7000, but I want a new build. Microsoft needs to put this up in less than 3 weeks on TechNet.

It hasn't been all peaches and cream for me. I have x64 installed fresh on a Lenovo x200s coming from 7000. It has killed my sleep function because my computer won't resume now. It has broken my Authentech fingerprint reader (I think Authentech needs to update its program for it). Also the recently opened programs has a bug where it won't move "windows update" to my recently used programs so I can pin it to the start menu.

It also goes into sleep, does not resume and when restarted the trackpoint driver sometimes stops working.

If you have a Lenovo x200s, stick with 7000 it was working perfectly. I might try one reinstall of 7057 before I go back to 7000 or wait for the RC.

I found the 32 and 64 on an ftp site.
How do I know if they are legit?
What should the file size be? (never mind-found that out)
And can someone explain the stats
MD5 :- 3e262526f9a758c5b3624910a05c2699

SHA1 :- b79d4552a7a871901e881ae308f9188e04a4f929

CRC32 :- 22ef1237

and how this can be verified against the downloaded iso file(s)?

They are hashes used to compare copies of files to see that the file you received is the exact copy of the intended original file.

EDIT: Just type in MD5 Hash generator in google and there should a free program that can generate hashes. Compare the result to the one you typed above, and if they are same, you are good to go.

I think so. I couldn't find any other. I guess 7061 or 7063 are right around the corner though.

I've noticed that, at least with the W7 beta, 32-bit generally works much better than 64-bit. This build in particular seems to be pretty poor with 64-bit (at least with benchmarks I've seen).

I've installed 7057 and so far very impressed. So much has been added from the first public W7 release. Check out those themes under "get more themes".
And gadgets are back, without the annoying sidebar.
Also media center (my use of windows 7) has improved 100%.

RC 7057 MCE found and installed both dual tuners in the media pc, and picked up all local ota digital frequencies. I have a lot of crap (hardware) on this media pc and have not manually install one single hardware driver. I can record two digital HD stations and two analog stations all at once .Quad!
And the best part... IT ALL WORKS!!! (unlike vista mce)
Im sold!!! Damm this is a great os.

Hoping against hope I threw in a blu-ray disc thinking just maybe they threw in BR support, if only in MCE. You already know the answer to this wish list...
I find it amazing MS does not add BR support.
You can play standard DVD's with media player and in MCE.
And standard DVD's were once the "golden" child of media too, just like BR.
So whats the problem????
Why not treat BR as a legit media?
Come-on MS. Get with it.

It is probably a licensing issue and not them making the choice not to include it.

If memory serves me correctly DVD playback in Windows Media Player is largely part of what fueled the EU to force Microsoft to ship Windows XP N-Edition.

It is because bonus content on Blu-ray uses Java.

The "N" editions were created to prevent Microsoft from monopolizing software by including WMP and IE.

I'm having that same problem when it goes to sleep. I end up having to shut down & when it restarts, I don't have the option of which OS to boot from...it just goes straight to "resuming windows".

Had a little issue with W7 7057.
After I installed powerdvd HD oem that comes with the LG BR drive,
I got a solid green video display screen when playng BR disc's with powerdvd.
OH NO.....
EVerything was going so good with W7 7057 and my MCE pc.
Then... my MB uses ati video. The driver was installed by W7,
but I went to ati just to check drivers. And sure enough ati has an windows-7
video driver (catalyst). AFter that, my 1080p display and the W7 theme wallpapers look
eye popping stunning. And powerdvd BR works also.
THe wallpapers in W7 (and themes) are fantastic in 1080p, and with the ati video driver.
