What about high school students that are science majors? My son takes Advanced Physics, Advanced Chem, Beginning Programming...WTF...

Hmm. If I get denied, I wonder if I'd get a refund. Maybe not. Not a big deal, but kinda annoying. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

I thought I saw if you were not completely satisfied they would refund your money?

Anyone else catch that?

It's twenty bucks, and it's with a large, reputable, organization. At this point, I recommend relaxing and seeing what happens. They are certainly swamped by applicants, which I doubt they are equipped to handle.

Yeah. I might not ask for a refund since they do have a tremendous amount of resources. I could stand to benefit from some of it if I bother to spend the time looking through it.

For people not having luck with ACM, is IEEE an option. It costs a bit more, but not much. $30 for one year and it takes about 8-9 days for validation to download and get keys.

I've seen other people on sites like fatwallet indicate that the IEEE option has taken several weeks. And I'm wondering if they would confirm eligibility like ACM has started to do. . . Curious.

Even though I've been in for some time now, before the thread was even posted here I just received this email from acm. I am still currently able to access all the software but I am guessing they might start shutting people down who aren't legit students after the stated date.

"Dear xxx xxx, As part of our student offerings, we created the Student Academic Initiative (SAI) whereby we offer Student Members access to software that is made available through selected vendors. Currently, Microsoft, Sun, and CA make software available to Student Members. It is important for ACM to verify that the individuals taking advantage of the ACM Student Academic Initiative are indeed students. Therefore, we are asking you to provide us with the information below by Friday, Sept. 25th. * The Name of Your Faculty Advisor* Your Student Identification Number Log in at https://www.myACM.org with your ACM Web Account username and password and follow the link "My Student Profile" to provide us with this information. Once we have verified this information, we will send you an email with your login credentials for the ACM Student Academic Initiative (SAI) in approximately 1 week. Thank you for your help in this matter! Lillian IsraelDirector of MembershipAssociation for Computing Machinery========================================Member No.: xxx Email on record: xxx"

Well, I actually am a full-time college student and am majoring in Business. According to their site, that is acceptable.
No good reason I should be getting denied or anything.

so can we say that the "$99 for professionals" is inaccurate? I find it hard to believe that such a loophole could exist. there are all kinds of discounts available to students but usually none for professionals.

That's the nature of professional organizations. IEEE and ACM aren't that bad. Take CFA organization.. Now that's a useless and expensive membership.

Got the final email today with my login information, took about a week for everything.

Good luck to those still waiting (keep in mind I am full time student, but not a CS or IT major)

Likewise. I was greeted this morning with an e-mail with my login and account info, etc. I opted in on Sept. 5, so it took some time. I'm a legit student, but not a CS or IT major either. Downloading the x64 ISO now and compiling a list of all the available keys. Woohoo!

Good luck to everyone else waiting. I was pretty much certian that I would be rejected but apparently not.

Strange. I opted in before. but upon logging in, i see another opt in. I checked it. it stated within 48 hours i will have a login...??

They may have reset your opt-in because your student info is incomplete...no student ID number?

My son is in high school, so no student number. I did put the name of his academic advisor..dunno that will do it or not... I guess I could use his SSN? They do not have student numbers there... He is excited about a lot of the items. His high school is very techno geekish as it is in Oak Ridge, TN..next to Y-12 national security plant. Many of the students there have parents who are engineers, computer programmers, etc. He likes Physics but also likes computer systems. As he has gotten older and has seen me build networks, he has shown an interest as well as coding (most of my friends are sys admins or coders)

Just got welcome email + login from MSDN. Opted in on 8th, and filled in extra info on 9th. Be patient guys, legit people will get it 🙂

HOORAAYYYY!
I got it! Login and everything.

OK, which one do I want?
Windows 7 Professional, or Windows 7 Ultimate RC? This will just be for basic use, I wont even be playing video games on it or anything.

I believe the RC one will expire (stop working) next year, you want the Pro.
