which email are you waiting for? the one for the web account for ACM or the MSDN one? if it the msdn one, the email subject line starts with Welcome to MSDN Academic Alliance: Online Software System.

if you have access to that, the software downloading from there is kinda like an online store. you choose which software you want to add to your cart, then click checkout and it add the software your profile. Then click on my software, and pick which software you want to download. Each software package has it own app that like 500KB that you download. Then that app will download the software for you.

cool thanks. I signed up for the student membership...got an email welcoming me...just waiting for the MSDN email to come in!

I am waiting also. If you click on the My Services link for the MDNAA

say payment pending...jeebers how long does it take to process a payment?

Just to play devil's advocate here, have you read the entire forum posts.

You may potentially be getting an "academic license key" for Windows 7.
http://msdn01.e-academy.com/el...us=ACM&np1=17&np2=25#6

Q: Does the license (or "key") permanently unlock the software?
A: No - the key allows you to install the software once. If you need to re-install the software, you will need to contact the PA (Program Administrator) at your school. Your PA's contact email information can be found in the support page. To view this information, please click on the Support button above.

Windows 7 hasn't officially finalized the EULA.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/eula.aspx

All I'm saying is that once Microsoft finalizes the EULA they MAY decide that all the keys given out by AMC (and similar) be treated as an Academic License Key and may be bound by those terms and you may get a nasty surprise in the future.

I'm just saying and reading what's in the fine print. You know the adage, if it's to good to be true it probably is.

I'm still using MSDNAA keys for xp and vista and I graduated over 2 yrs ago. License nicely says you have rights to use software after you graduate.

BTW activation process is the same as you would have retail copy. MS has no special keys that denote "this is MSDNAA version"

where is the My Services link for the MDNAA? I click on My Services...then there's a "Developer Academic Alliance (formerly MSDN AA)" link....

Anyone else notice this:

"In order to take advantage of ACM's Student Academic Initiative (SAI) Program, you must verify your student status by providing ACM with the following information:
The name of your Faculty Advisor
Your Student Identification Number
Please click on 'My Student Profile' and complete all the required fields. "

Yea, click on the DAA link.

Edit:
I think :^/ I don't remember how I did it. A link came in email if I remember right. I didn't submit student credentials to access anything though.

I get the same thing. Problem is, my step son is in high school and does not have a student number or an academic advisor. ????

Now what?

I don't think you need to do that, unless they've changed things since I signed up. It seems to me the relevant links came through email.

Those are additional benefits of being an ACM member. If all you want is the Win 7 license, ignore the other programs like the Sun Academic Initative, and just use the Developer Academic Alliance link. If you really want access to the Sun tools and educational programs, see if you can get help using the contact link in the upper right corner.

Edit: Nevermind, I see the same message now after clicking the Developer Academic Alliance link. Your high school student probably does have a student number, even if you don't know it. As for having an "advisor", that may be tougher. That would only seem to apply if there is an ACM chapter at the school. What if there isn't? Can you just put the name of a guidance counselor at the school?

Looks like they just implemented these additional required fields on the student Profile screen, in response to the overwhelming number of people apply for this benefit.

I used his home room teacher's name...no student number that I know of, or he knows of.

I haven't even gotten the notice, it's close to 48 hours for me.

Having kids to sign up for this is great! 😀

6 Windows 7 Pro.
9 Vista (varius)
6 Windows XP

Lots of other stuff too! 😀

Waiting (and hoping) for Windows 7 Ultimate to be added soon! 😛

It's odd, we all signed up around the same time...yet for some it's taking a few hours to get processed, for others it's taking days.

They've been kinda jerking me around.
The initial email telling me I have access to ACM took about 2 minutes.
Figuring out where the software is supposed to be took about an hour.
Figuring out I had to "opt in" to get any software took me about half an hour.
Them getting back to me and letting me know I had to provide school ID and Faculty Advisor name: Never.
I had to keep refreshing the MSDN page and then it finally popped up with that message.

Entered the info in my profile.
Its been about 24 hours now.

I sincerely hope there is a free Windows 7 on the other end of this rainbow.

It has been taking me some time too. I originally registered/entered my CC info on Friday, created my acount etc and got the initial burst of e-mails. My card was finally charged and payment was processed on Wednesday. I "opted in" later on Wednesday afternoon and am waiting for the info about how to get through the MSDN stuff and start downloading.

I was never e-mailed with a request to fill out my advisor info. I did enter it anyway Wednesday afternoon while reading this thread.

The site states that I will get an e-mail within 24 hours after opting in to the download site. So technically, it isn't past that point yet. So I expect to get the e-mail today, but we'll see.

It's not free software, it's a membership that gives you access to the software under certain terms and conditions where you are bound by the EULA of the MSDNAA agreements, if anyone acquires Windows 7 and they are not faculty or a student and has received Windows 7 under fraudulent terms it's basically pirating the software.

All I'm saying is that everyone thinks that W7 is $19, it isn't.

Cheers.
