What did you have to do to fix this issue. I'm having the same problem with the gigantic mouse pointer.
I updated my mobo BIOS and my video drivers at the same time (can't tell you which it exactly was), but I haven't had the problem in awhile.

5870 here on the 9.12 Cats, Win7 x64, no issues at all.

People getting crashes when only browsing/watching videos (2D mode) could try this fix:

Steps:
1. Open CCC
2. Unlock and Enable Overdrive if they aren’t already.
3. Go to Options/Profiles/Profiles Manager. Create a new profile. Under composition make sure “ATI Overdrive” is checked. Save and Close, DO NOT ACTIVATE.
4. In windows go to: C: \Users\{yourusername}\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles (you will need to have “show hidden files” turned on for this)
5. Open the xml document with the name of the profile you just created (notepad is fine)
6. Change the values of the Clock and Memory speeds to look like this (these specific values are what worked for me and my card, use judgment) EDIT ONLY THE BOLD VALUES.

Feature name="CoreClockTarget_0"
Property name="Want_0" value="40000"
Property name="Want_1" value="60000"
Property name="Want_2" value="85000"

Feature

Feature name="MemoryClockTarget_0"
Property name="Want_0" value="90000"
Property name="Want_1" value="90000"
Property name="Want_2" value="120000"

7. Save and close. Go back to CCC and activate the profile you just created.

This will make the card idle at 400core, 900memory. (2D clocks are the "Want_0" values).

This profile tweak is for 5870 and 5770 cards, if you have a 5850 for example, make sure that the "Want_2" value (which is the 3D/performance value) does not exceed your card's stock clocks. For example 725/1000 for the HD5850.

Hope this helps :)

I had the similiar problem with flash videos in full screen, except my screen kept having artifacts and basically unwatchable.
I noticed if I used MSI Afterburner and turned up the clocks ,it made my 2d clocks go up also and solved most of my problems.
It still has a quick stutter once in a while but that might be the video or connection or something else.

All my games run ok.

Just got my 5870 yesterday, uninstalled the NVIDIA drivers from my GTX 260, installed the 10.1 Cat's, no issues so far on Win7 64-bit Ultimate.

ah crap....
too late for that at least with amazon.

I guess i'll want for a few more driver updates just to make sure, and then RMA with XFX directly (don't know how they would find it though... since i can 3d Vantage on extreme without the card crashing). or maybe switch it into another system i have for testing

than you don't have artifacts you have something else, crashing and artifacts are two different things all together.

I can stretch my dollars further with an ATI card and get more, if it works with Windows 7 64-edition properly.

I wouldn't be using it (and many others) if it didn't work properly...;)

PS
For rest of you forget the BS that nv drivers are better, not anymore...
