Have the driver issues been resolved with the 5750 and 5770 with Windows 7 64-bit edition?

Am I gonna run into a bunch of issues while gaming?

It's the only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on one till now. I've always went with NVIDIA in the past, but I know I can stretch my dollars further with an ATI card and get more, if it works with Windows 7 64-edition properly.

I don't have a ton of money to spend, so I'd like to get one, rather than a GTS 250 if possible. I've just read too many people having driver issues to do it so far.

Have not had a single issue either with cat9.12 or the beta drivers before them with my 5970 here.

No problems here. Haven't played many games, but Far Cry 2, Crysis Warhead and Dirt 2 all work flawlessly on Win7 Ultimate x64 and a watercooled 5870.

I have Win 7 64 bit installed on 2 machines, and each machine has a HD5850. No problems at all. (Cat 9.12 + Hotfix)

I actually have some problems with my setup. I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 RTM with a new Radeon 5770. I tried installing Catalyst 6.12, but it wouldn't recognize my card, so it didn't install the video driver. Then I tried 6.11, also failed. I went with the drivers on the CD, which are probably 6.10 or something, and I had the same problem. Eventually, I just had the driver update wizard search the CD to install a graphics driver. It works pretty well and plays Dragon Age on max settings without a hitch, but my computer completely locks up when I try to play some fullscreen Flash content, like Facebook video. It also stutters on some anime .avi files. I'm going to try reinstalling the drivers and see if it helps.

Thanks guys for the feedback. It's just you usually only hear the negative on message forums when it comes to these things, so you tend to focus in on that.

Nice to hear people who aren't having any issues.

i've had a few problems....

sometimes randomly the screen freezes with vertical bars (green typically and the color changes) and then i need to restarted.

since i got the card (about 4 weeks now) it has happened probably 15-20 times. Almost all of the times it happened as i was browsing the internet (GPU at idle) and only one time it happened as i was in a game (mass effect)

HD5770 on Windows 7 x64 Pro.

The GPU is the only thing new, hadn't seen this issue prior to it. I also upgrade from windows 7 RTM to retail release around the same time.... so can't be sure it's the GPU but i had no issues with the RTM

I think it's a Powerplay issue where the card changes GPU/Memory clocks when switching from 2D/Video/3D modes and the standard voltage set is too low. Some people solved it by disabling/removing ATI HDMI Audio in the device manager. If that doesn't help, you can try lowering the GPU and Memory clocks a little, this worked for some people.

But I think this problem will need a proper BIOS/Driver to fix it.

People getting crashes when only browsing/watching videos (2D mode) could try this fix:

Steps:
1. Open CCC
2. Unlock and Enable Overdrive if they aren’t already.
3. Go to Options/Profiles/Profiles Manager. Create a new profile. Under composition make sure “ATI Overdrive” is checked. Save and Close, DO NOT ACTIVATE.
4. In windows go to: C: \Users\{yourusername}\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles (you will need to have “show hidden files” turned on for this)
5. Open the xml document with the name of the profile you just created (notepad is fine)
6. Change the values of the Clock and Memory speeds to look like this (these specific values are what worked for me and my card, use judgment) EDIT ONLY THE BOLD VALUES.

Feature name="CoreClockTarget_0"
Property name="Want_0" value="40000"
Property name="Want_1" value="60000"
Property name="Want_2" value="85000"

Feature

Feature name="MemoryClockTarget_0"
Property name="Want_0" value="90000"
Property name="Want_1" value="90000"
Property name="Want_2" value="120000"

7. Save and close. Go back to CCC and activate the profile you just created.

This will make the card idle at 400core, 900memory. (2D clocks are the "Want_0" values).

This profile tweak is for 5870 and 5770 cards, if you have a 5850 for example, make sure that the "Want_2" value (which is the 3D/performance value) does not exceed your card's stock clocks. For example 725/1000 for the HD5850.

Hope this helps :)

Vista 64 here, not 7, but the only think I hate is CCC. Not the card's fault. I can't complain about its performance or stability.

Dude, Im no expert here on these kind of things, but to me it sounds like you might just have a bad card...

In all my years of PC building Ive never had a card artifact and show weird images, etc due to drivers...its always been because of a bad video card...just my 2 cents but I would look at returning it and getting a new one ASAP!

I have two 5770 and windows 7 64bit no issues with 9.10 drivers, the newer drivers offer real nice improvements too.Nvidia probably needs the money LOLZ!

I don't know about artifacting, but I know a bad driver install can make my old gpu give me a purple screen ting after alt tabbing in and out of a game.

Forgot to mention windows 7 ultimate and my 5770 work together perfectly so far. I haven't noticed any problems playing dirt 2 or dragon age. Card seems to OC pretty well even with just autotune in CCC it recommended 950/1435 for mine and even then haven't seen any problems in games.

Are you talking about BETA drivers as the 6.11 drivers are for older cards not the HD5770? Not even close to Vista either.

I dont believe your using the proper driver(s)...I'm fairly sure support for 5*** series cards started with the 8.** series drivers. I have had zero problems with my 5870 but I always use the latest driver release...

ah crap....
too late for that at least with amazon.

I guess i'll want for a few more driver updates just to make sure, and then RMA with XFX directly (don't know how they would find it though... since i can 3d Vantage on extreme without the card crashing). or maybe switch it into another system i have for testing

The only problem I had with my 5870 was the giant mouse cursor thing, and that was more of an annoyance than a problem, and has also been fixed.

You tried installing drivers from 2006 on your 2009 video card? No wonder you were having problems.

What did you have to do to fix this issue. I'm having the same problem with the gigantic mouse pointer.
