Installed the new patch yesterday, running noticeably faster,
the problem of Explorer hogging the CPU is gone.

You can install it without the old one, just go to windows updates and install the "critical" stuff.

When it's all said and done I would still rather have the updates than just leaving it the way it was when it was released.
