Winchester 3200+ at 2.6GHz

Well I have my 3200+ at 2.6 but im a little concerned with the temps. At idle, 31-33 but at load its about 55-57 durring prime95. Vcore is at 1.6 volts. I am on water cooling and i would think the temps should be lower. What do you all think?

grrr. i can only get mine to 2570 stabley, 2610 works for a while but then freezes 🙁 i still call it a 4000+ though. whats 30 megahertz 🙂

*sigh* Really nice. Is it possible to reach those speeds with Winchester 3200+ without water? Like you know with Zalman 7700 in Tsunami Dream?

yes!

the .09 winchesters are overclocking beasts... err sorta at least... they are well capable of 2.6 to 2.8 even on air...

Hmm, I haven't seen proof that ALL Winchesters overclock highly. As with any cpu overclocking, it is still luck of the draw with cpus. Unless AMD is starting to bin their 3800+.

i got my winchester 3000 to 2.5 then i stopped. i could have easily gone higher, but i decided to save some fun for later 😉

I'd say a .90nm 3500+ is your best bet for 2.6-2.7 . I've heard of .90nm 3000s & 3200s not getting beyond 2.4. It's really hit and miss you know. but I'd think the .90nm 3500+ would do it, the 3800+ is only in 130nm I thought ? although its only a 200mhz jump, which almost every a64 seems to be able to do just fine. my 130nm 3500+ is doing 2.5 on air just fine, its a bit hot, but nothing over 60c at the highest which is ok I guess. I'm sure with watercooling it would do 2.6, as I've had it there before, but its too damn hot once it gets under usage. So I'd think the .90nm 3500+, if you get a good chip would do 2.6 to 2.7 no problem with decent cooling.

temps are far from dangerous. they are fine. it can handle up to 70 degrees C, but i woulnt recommend that high, lol.

I heard that 3000s and 3200s can't hit 2.6 stable, I've heard people hitting 2.5somethings. Don't remember the cooling systems though, probably water.

You have heard wrong, I have stable 12 hours of prime95, 10 pass of memtest, etc at 2.6ghz with 1.47vcore....

I got prime95 to pass 4 hours of prime95 at 2.7ghz but I din't like I had to use 1.63v-1.64v...My mobo somehow goes form 1.57v to the next setting of 1.63v...I need some manual settings of newer bios and see if i can get 1.6v...1.57v-1.58v did 1 hour before it errored...I need just a bump more to probably get stability....

You also need to oppen your eyes as there are quite a few in the last few days hitting 2.6ghz and beyond...

I've tried 3 90nm 3000+ chips and only one has made it to 2.6. The other 2 did 2.35ghz and 2.5ghz respectively....

The good thing is that you can buy 4 of them for the same price as a single 3800+, and you get to sell the 3 lowest clockers.

Just make sure to spread the order around different retailers to get different batches/weeks.

Well it turns out it wasnt quite as stable as i though. Played World Of Warcraft at 2.6 and it crashed, put it back to 2.5 and has been running fine all day. Maybe more voltage? I have the MSI neo2 plat (bios 1.3) does the 10% option work? Was running fine under superPi and prime95, wonder why game crashed. Currently ram is at 2.7 volts, whats the maz OCZ plat rev.2 can go to? Still gonna try for the 2.6 seems like just a little tweeking can make it more stable. Was thinking close to 60 on water was kinda high but i guess not.

My 3200+ on water runs 2.5 at 1.55V and can run 2.6 at 1.6V, but isn't Prime95 stable at 2.6. Temps are completely the same as stock, it's all about the core voltage. I'm happy with my O/C right now, but I'll probably get the Neo2 beta BIOS and up it to 1.7 and go from there.

Check that memory more thorough;y...could be the cause...

Also we need to check these NB chipsets...talk is they are spattered with little or no paste...Since I see no NB chip temp I have no clue where that is at...But I imagine 280-300fsb should really be straining that...

One thing to consider and i am not sure on the amd side but often times raising the vagp a notch has gotten a flaky or possibly flaky nb to work a bit better...What is the vagp set at now???
