hey guys. I use winamp, but I was wondering what you all thought the best player was.. if you vote for 'other' please tell me what that other is! See i want to start creating playlists and whatnot for all my music, but I want to use the best program out there so in a few months I don't have to switch to another one :)

I despise the new version(s) of Windows Media Player. It is evil :| I still use the old version of it (ver 6 I think), because it doesn't include all of the extra crap that I don't want or need.

I love Winamp. Easy to use, stable, has good plugins, and doesn't cripple my computer.

I hear ya! I'm still using the old version, too. The new GUI looks like "My First Media Player" or something that Toys-R-Us invented. Plus, it's slower to load and hogs resources. I hate software like that.

I'm still using IE 5.1 just because I installed 5.5 and noticed it took twice as long to load when I clicked on the "e" - so I quickly uninstalled it. I don't like using newer software when the old stuff works better.

I still use media player 6.4 also because 7 just took way too long to load.

khtm,

You should go to IE6. It loads faster and takes less resources than 5.x versions.

I voted Winamp(I use winamplite), however, Sonique is better sounding except its heavy on resources.

I'm runnin XP and I like the little player you can drop in your taskbar. It's part of the new TweakUI. I know thats a confusing description, so click here for a screen shot. You can set the title to pop up whenever it switches songs. I use that when I'm surfin the web, or other desktop stuff, but I still use Winamp, because I've got some plugins for hotkeys so I can listen to music in games and still have control over songs.

Anyone know of a way I can use older versions of Media Player with XP? I never upgraded when I was running 2K cause it looked like a$$, but as far as I can tell, there's no other option with XP. Anyone know differently?

To get Windows Media Player 6.4 in WinXP:

Start... Run... mplayer2.exe

I'm using WMP 6.4 in XP, all you have to do is copy the folder from 2K, and run the the mplayer.exe... PM me if you want it. :)

And for music, I use Musicmatch Jukebox cause the llama's ass doesn't have a file library, and it sucks having to move your songs all the time to play a few in the order you want.

I use Quintessential Player from Quinnware. I starting using it back when it was only a CD player and WinAMP had horrible support for CD's. The program has since be upgraded to include MP3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, etc... support. I haven't used WinAMP for years now so I can't compare the two. But I think it kicks ass.

winamp at home, Musicmatch Jukebox at work - why? Well, MMJB can work with IE's proxy settings so I can get past our company's firewall and listen to internet radio, albeit MMJB radio which kinda sucks, but it's better than nothin'. I have yet to get winamp to actually work through the proxy server, so I can't listen to radio there. I was surprised the MMJB worked so well - I've been a hardcore winamp user ever since their old versions, like 1.1 or something...

Say I have a playlist with all my songs, and I want to play 5 songs in a particular order, I have to move these 5 songs next to eachother in the correct order and start playing the first one.

With MM, I have a library and a playlist. All my songs are in the library in order, and I just click on the ones I want to play to add them to the playlist. when want another few songs, I clear the playlist...

Winamp 3.0 is designed this way, so I guess they understood it was better... ;)
