So how does this work? Does Winamp issue a patch or is this another MS issue?

This is why I will never update my Winamp 2.8 version. It has all I ever need.

Does this require you to add a compromised skin? Ir is it unsafe even with the default skin?

it's unsafe with any skin, because the bad skin gets automatically downloaded without any user interaction.

Don't you need to install the malicious Winamp skin in order for this vulnerability to affect you?

Not if you use Internet Explorer. It gets installed automatically.

Seriously. Seeing as how much MORE awesome and unbloated foobar is than the already awesome and unbloated winamp, I don't see why more people aren't using foobar already. I mean it's like winamp is a 10 on a scale of 1-10, and foobar is an 11. Can't really go wrong with either one (well, until now apparently). It's made by some ex-winamp people anyway.

My only guess as to why foobar isn't the number 1 player instead of winamp is it is slightly less n00b-friendly and it isn't as widely known about. *shrug*

such as? like DFX OMG my sound is so distroted its keWL? :p

instead of annoying gimmicks, foobar comes with essential plugins that are actually quite useful.
just to name a few:
ks output (irrelevant if you use ASIO like me, but doesnt hurt to have it)
replaygain (say goodbye to clipping isssues)
supports APL/FLAC/OGG/MPC/AAC out of box
SSRC/PPHS resampler (very useful to some)
much better interface (columns_UI anyone?)
convolver :)thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: )
decent 18-band eq
very nice crossfeed (actually there is even better one out there altho installation is somewhat involving)
real plalist, doesnt get meessed up like winamp's

winamp sounds much inferior with FLAC, and this is completely unacceptable FLAC being arguably the most preferred lossless codec out there.

fb2k takes up less memory/cpu cycles due to more efficient coding.

list of various 3rd partyplugins

if that isnt enough to make you switch, i dunno what would be ;)

oh yeah, did i mention winamp is bastardized AOeviLware?

Dont get twisted over my plugins ... hah :p

Geiss -http://www.geisswerks.com/ <---
MILKDROP 1.04 (7/31/03)
KMG DSP Dynamic Volume <--- Good for internet Radio

Streamripper - parses music to mp3's <----

Crossfading Directsound output v1.35b

OK ,,, those are ONLY my BIG favorites ... I got tons more

Many 'sleek' skins also

Dunno why you have this attitude against my comment, or is it against winamp in general >?
My soundstorm is awsome ... dunno what your talking about

v2.80 has none of that bloatware in the newer versions...
