I know many people that paid $300/person for Office 2007 and wish they could turn off Microsoft's new "ribbon" UI completely...

I think those are the people who don't care so much about UI but care about being able to do the things they used to do. If you get used to all the menu commands the ribbon interface is dumb, but I take on new UIs easily and I enjoy advancements in UI. To me, the ribbon interface was a lot better. It put all the features people use on a daily basis right there in front of me. The most basic things like creating tables and applying themes were so easy. It made my class notes look very nice.

Can anyone post a QR code link to the powerAMP download? Not in the market. Also, does powerAMP scrobble to last.fm?

Poweramp looks real nice, but unless I'm blind I can't play based off genre, but then again I can't do that with Cubed or Music Mod either. Something that's so simple seems to be missing from every Android player I've tried, sucks :( PowerAmp looks like it has a lot of promise I'll be keeping my eyes on it, but unless it gets a genre feature I probably won't use it.

No codes yet, but the DL links are in the very first XDA post.

Meridian plays by genre. Hell, so does the stock Galaxy S player... Unfortunately, Android can't read genre tags properly except off of mp3s.

If you want a PowerAMP feature, the dev's in that XDA thread. So just ask him. ;)

i really don't understand why people complain about the UI of a music player app, the fucking thing only needs 4 buttons, back, forward, stop/pause and play, all of them have that and they all work fine

Swipe controls are pretty useful IMHO, Cubed has a few. If you've ever used a Zune HD or PocketTouch on an iPhone you'd understand. And an ugly UI is ugly to look at, who wants to look at ugly? Even if I'm only looking at it from time to time I don't want to look at a steaming pile of poo. I hardly ever look at my Winamp on my PC but I still went thru about 40 skins to find one I liked. A blocky Windows 95 looking UI doesn't fit at all on a new phone with a new OS.

Well, while I do love me some winamp on my PC, I don't think it's good for my phone. The buttons are too small, while the widget is too big. I'll stick with MixZing's 4x1 widget on my lockscreen, the buttons are still too small but bigger than winamp's buttons.

WTF is "scrobble"?

I haven't messed with Winamp in years & the last time I did, it was buggy as hell. I'm sure it's a much improved program now...screenshots look promising...

To "scrobble" is to upload song data from one's media player to one's account on last.fm. For those of us that for whatever reason enjoy seeing our music listening trends and to potentially discover new music based on our "scrobble" history, it's a must-have in a music app. :)

Any way to make the widget into 1x4? If I want the album art I can like the lightning bolt.

So I just grabbed the winamp app so I can sync over wifi. Transferred 600 songs, but got hung up on 2 or 3 of them. I had to remove them from the media library and disconnect/reconnect my device. Went back in and finished the transfer. Then I went back and re-added the problem mp3s to the media library and tried to transfer them again individually. No dice, so there's apparently something in these files that either the media library or the phone app doesn't like. It just says "connecting" and never changes. I've seen similar sorts of complaints but nobody seems to know what exactly is up. Anyone here go through this?
