Someone explain this jump feature to me ? I have a playlist... what's the benefit of this jump feature ? In the drop-down, it allows jump 10 ahead/back or jump to specific track (you have to choose)... what's so special about jumping when used with shuffling ?

You can create a queue of songs in the Jump to track dialogue, that way, you can create sort of 'sub playlists' -- I have all my music on one big playlist, so I queue up a few songs I want and then it goes back to shuffling through all my music. No muss, no fuss, no chaning in and out playlists.

Nice! I've been wanting this feature ever since i first got winamp 2. I'm still waiting for some really good modern skins though. They seem to come out a lot slower than the winamp 2 skins.

Is it still a resource whore?

I never really found Winamp5 to be that bad. Right now, I'm using a modern skin and streaming radio, and it's consuming all of 5 MB of RAM. Granted, this particular skin is pretty resource light, but that's not bad. It's not the bloated mess that Winamp3 was.

Also, if you use a classic skin, you basically have a patched Winamp 2.9x with the media library feature.

The moment Winamp gets iPod support (some good iPod support, not the current crap) I'm going to jump right in. Right now, though, nothing does iPod better than iTunes. Winamp needs to at least come close in order for me to jump ship.

Edit: It's playlists I need mostly, and the iPod plugin that just came out doesn't have it. Oh what the hell, I'll give it a go just for fun - will report back with some feedback for all the iPod owners of ATOT.

Does anyone here have a problem with winamp 5 clipping the high frequencies? I have this problem with both winamp 5 and 5.02 and I downloaded the latest creative drivers. However, I do not have this problem with windows media player or the older versions of winamp ie winamp 3 or lower. I would like to use it for its features but if I can?t get quality sound out of it its not worth it

I have various problems with winamp which is the same reason I abandoned it long ago. Whenever I pause or click stop on a song and come back and click play, I hear nothing. The song shows as playing but no sound comes from Winamp, all other sounds work fine. When playing videos in winamp I cannot click on any of the buttons, stop, pause, move the slider. This is on both my main PC and on my laptop. Same problems, two different machines.

Also when playing videos, it comes up in this tiny little box right in the middle of the screen. I can adjust the size of the box upwards and to the left but I can't move or adjust it any other way.

Search Winamp.com for the MAD decoder plugin.

Don't know about your video problems, but my laptop does that for audio, but no other computer does, and it only does it when I go into standby. I think it is your soundcard, as none of my other computers and soundcards do that.

I just installed Winamp 5.02 (up from 5.01) and....wow...they redid the jump dialogue to let you create a queue of the songs you want next, and after the queue runs out, it's back to normal play.

Woo! It's what I've always wanted in Winamp

🙂:wine:

Vive Winamp!

May the iTunes infidels die a thousand deaths. 😛

itunes rocks man 😛 on a side note, i've found winamps media library to be slower than itunes. seems to lag a bit more for me. That and I really prefer the subtle look of itunes... ok, not a good description.. but whatever. i guess having an ipod also puts me to it too... heh.

I never use the media library...I have well organized tunes on my harddrive, and I keep all my music in one huge playlist, so the Queue feature works well for me. I guess the media library paradigm just never clicked with me.

Still running 2.78 here 🙂 Might have to try this v5.02, though. Anyone know if I can use my same skin in the new winamp? (I have a Oklahoma State skin that I really like 😉).

Yes, old skins work fine, and it runs faster with them anyway.
