AOL can bite me, I think Winamp 3 installed about 8 various shortcuts to AOL. Wow, what fun it was, like a Where's Waldo of shortcuts. I hate doing this everytime I install AOL owned software.

i tried the beta a long time ago and didn't care for it, so i went back to 2.80. Now that i know AOL has coding in the software, it may be time for me to A)not upgrade winamp anytime soon or B) find another mp3 player as amazing as winamp 2.80.

Oiiiii

Try QCD. Lots of WinAmp refugees use it according to the forums. I've been using it for years, gave up on Winamp long ago.

interesting.. going to look into that

I just installed QCD. I like it so far. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well, it looks like WinAmp 3.0 is a bloated piece of sh!t and WinAmp 2.x probably isn't going to be maintained anymore. Do I care? Not in the slightest.

XMMS is my alternative of choice. Runs faster than WinAmp, runs on *NIX, it's open source, and it supports WinAmp 2.x skins and plugins! :)

Dunno if it runs on Windows or not. Maybe...

XMMS is pretty cool and I used it when I used to run RedHat 6 back in the day. But I don't think it's supported by Windows- UNIX only.

Sounds like everyone else is shying away from the new 3.0 as well, so I guess I won't bother installing it. Can someone PM me if they know how to make Winamp 2.80 fade in and out between songs as you click the forward/next button? :(

Sucks, first it took my movie extensions and linked them to it's crappy vid player, even though I said not to, then, when uninstalled wouldn't let go I had to do it by hand. The load time isn't (for me) as good as 2.x, the new "features" aren't THAT great that I could fathom what they have been doing for the last 15 years (approx.)....

And the damned thing doesn't work with my media shortcut keys on my MS INet KB Pro....how dumb....

Well, I expected a lot of negative reviews but this is overwhelming. I'll just stick to my current version 2.73 for now. Im gonna make extra 2.73 backup copies in case I cant find it anywhere after 3.0 takes over :D

BTW, there are a half-dozen AOL shortcuts with each winamp installation Ive done in the past couple of years. I found them on the desktop, quick start, the space right above the Programs in the start menu, and some other places. Damn AOL :|

WHAT??? The media shortcut keys are one of the best things about winamp and the MS internet pro working together. Now I REALLY wont upgrade to 3.0. Thanks for the heads up

If you ever installed Netscape, you would have noticed it gives you options to install AOL IM, Realplayer, and Winamp. They're all one-in-the-same outfit.

The latest beta lets you modify the equalizer.

I smell a rotten fish on this download.

I'm sticking with the latest beta of Winamp 3, which I like and have found no bugs. And I like the new features.

Unless they made dramatic inprovements since RC4/5 in memory management, it's still too slow for my liking. But still will use it for the playlist features.

It runs out of sync when playing video here, audio runs at normal speed while video is at 1/20th or something. Uninstalled it again.

I haven't installed Netscape in years. I gave up on it about the time also that AOL took over Netscape, it was a dying browser at that point. I may check out Mozilla one of these days though, I've heard good things about it but haven't tried it myself yet.

It took me one second to download this. How is that even possible? I have rarely been over 125kbs.

You ISP maybe using a proxy austin316. It stores file which are frequently downloaded by other users on your ISP, on one of their local servers to 'speed up' the internet for their customers.

BTW, from what I've heard, Winamp 3.0 is going to be AOLs move into full featured media players to compete with the likes of Real, Windows Media Player and Quicktime. (Just what we need. Another piece of bloatware). I think they even have some people developing a propritary codec inhouse..

Download Winamp 2.80 and save it somewhere, so if you have to re-install sometime, you'll still have a working copy of what looks like the last great MP3 player for windows. (No counting on how long they leave the classic site up)
