"Create a Microsoft account to sign into Windows"
No thanks, <clicks on 'offline account'>
"Are you sure you don't want a Microsoft account? Here's lots of reasons why you should want one!"
No thanks, I'm sure.
"Create a username to sign into Windows with"
OK, <types in username>
"Create a super-secret password to sign into Windows with... or better yet, use a Microsoft account!"

Weird, I never got that. Just told me to sign in with my current local account.

I do hate the stupid "Hello there." and "We've upgraded your PC." and "Let's take a moment to show you around." crap that pops up after a major update. Just show me the goddamn desktop.

The worst thing about Windows 10 is that with every update, Microsoft seems to add more and more notification pop-ups. The worst thing is that I can't seem to figure out how to dismiss them with the latest update. Before, they had an 'X' on them to close them, but the latest update changed that to an arrow that seems to execute it. Also, clicking on it seems to execute it too! This gets a bit annoying for me as I disable the firewall for all internal (private) networks, and it always pops up a box yelling at me for doing so. If I click on the box, it turns it back on!

I have to disagree with all the naysayers. Windows 10 is awesome. Stable as f***. I've disabled all of the "tracking" crap, notifications, and add-ons (Bing News/Weather, MS Store) and you really wouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and 7.

Hmm... no Microsoft account requirement, no tracking, no uncloseable apps, no auto-updates? Sounds like the Windows I want.

Yup, it reminds me of this:

That's not exactly a big selling point: "Once you turn off all this stuff, it's the same as what you're already using". Great?

I'm yet to hear anything that tells me why I'd want to upgrade to Win10.
As Agent Smith from the Matrix would say - "You hear that Mister Anderson ?? That is the sound of inevitability". If you game at all, you will eventually need DirectX 12. I avoided it like the plague, but I did upgrade my workbench rig to 10 simply because the 'free' deadline for the assisted tech upgrade ends on Dec 31 of this month, and I can't afford to pay for an OS upgrade on multiple machines.

I don't like it, but it is what it is. Back when XP was taking off, I managed to hang onto Win2k until 2006. It was a good run, but it had to end eventually. Good luck holding out for as long as you can. I wish you guys the best.

BUT THEN USE 7 !!

i'm going to use W7 until "it doesn't do something that i want it to do", which is going to be a looooong ass time, since atm there's nothing that can't be coded into W7.

the DX12 argument is really weak, if i should have a game with DX12, i would most likely turn it off within the space of time that it takes me to find the options and the "turn off DX12" setting.
This is NOT due to some weird hate for W10, but rather than i do not want bloom, godrays, volumetric fog, distortion, screendoor fade, or other similar bullshit cluttering my screen when i'm trying to shoot the bad guys.
i'm sure it's different for all the Witcher 3 aficionados, but to me those kinds of graphics are a negative rather than a positive.

I'll "upgrade" when I buy a new PC that's already got 10 on it, same way I did for Vista and 7 :D

There is no reason to move from windows7 to windows 10. Windows 10 is so full of bloat it's not funny. There is literally no way to disable all of the endless notifications.
The start menu is absolute trash. Each major update reenables most of the crap I spent hours removing. They really need to stop trying to copy OSX. OSX will always be a superior OS no matter what MS does.

this sounds like pebkac

just upgraded 6 comps to the creators update, was not presented with this

I'm pretty sure that bit about using a Microsoft Account only shows up during new installations.

Well, it will also pester you whenever you sign into an app such as the Xbox app.

dayum. let me edit my damn post!!

ok, so i was saying,

i just don't buy that any games company will be suicidal enough to release games that will simply not run if you do not have a DX12 capable OS and GPU. So, we're looking to a time where W10.DX12 is basically ubiquitous and people look at you weird when you say "oh i don't use DX12" which is 1. going to be a long ass time from now, and 2. possibly M$FT will have released a not-disgustingly-bloatware OS by then. Do keep in mind, that before we had 7, we had Vista ..

That's because you don't get it when upgrading.

You get it when firing up a new PC with build 1703 (probably later versions too) already installed, and this is the wizard that runs for the first time.

When you create a new account it will also ask for a microsoft account but it is true, it can for now still be declined in windows 1709 build 16299.98.

I believe the reason for the new welcome screen is because what is going on behind it. Essentially Windows is being re-installed so you can either stare at the new welcome screens or at a command prompt loading and installing Windows. Since it is Microsofts OS it appears they do not want us to see that.

Oh my ... I'm trying sooo hard to stifle a laugh here. There will never be another Win7. It was back in the day when the OS was actually an OS as itself, with service packs to fix issues. Nowadays, Win 10 is a service, meaning no more service packs (that would extend the support on the OS) and MS can just issue these updates without drawing out the support window up to 14 years (!!!) like they did with Win XP.

No, sorry, there will not be an successor to Win10 that you will give a resounding thumbs up to. If you don't like 10, it's successor will be more of the same. We can thank these social media obsessed youths for not caring about their personal details and/or information to the point where mining it and sending them targeted ads has become an acceptable and worthwhile endeavor. Just be careful when you order the extra large Coke and a pack of smokes - you may raise your health insurance premiums due to leading an unhealthy lifestyle. Welcome to the new age of anti-privacy !!

Eh generally every iteration is hated at first. I didn't move to 7 for a year or so, but 7 has been good to me, stable as hell, and nary an issue. I've used 10 at home and at work and while I don't know that I've had any actual issues, all of the behind the scene stuff they do and constantly try to turn on, and the lack of any real control over it etc etc, makes me loathe using it. They make basic tasks difficult and pop ups constantly. It is not an OS for a user, it is an OS for a company that wants control over you.

I understand why most people do not have issues with this. Android, Iphones, hell even TV's now all run OS's that pretty much do whatever they want and you have to jump through needless hoops all in the name of 'ease of use' and people are used to it now. It's much like the government. Deal with this so we don't have to (while they chip away at any of your actual rights right in front of your eyes).

"Log into this useless account for no other reason than so we can track you and sell your information to other people". That is the world we live in.
