If the pirate groups can crack the original OS, it'll only be a matter of days before they figure out SP2.

They'll never stop pirate groups using current methods, but can't blame them for trying...

Just get a Key changer to change the key to a valid one. Most key changers come with a keygen.

Thank you for sharing your criminalistic endeavors.

I use an illegal key but own a fully licensed version. I don't feel the need to have M$ "register" my computer every time I do a clean install, which winds up being every 3 months because of the crapfest that is their software.

Sounds like you just suck.

I do a new install like once every 12 to 18 months.

I was in this situation too, however SP2 beta (RC2 at least) wouldn't work with most of the pirate keys. Even if you changed it to one that worked, windows update still wouldn't work. There's a utility out there that will disable activation entirely while still letting me use my legit Pro key, and rc2 and WU both worked under this.

On a somewhat related note, the RC2 came with WMP9 and there was nothing you could do about it. It also installed with the firewall enabled. It was more of a pain in the ass than it was useful, in beta anyway. I suppose it will be time to try it again, with my new X15's arriving and all, good time for a reinstall.

If you have to reinstall every 3 months then the fault isn't with Microsoft...

No, the reason you have to reinstall every 3 months is because you have no idea what you're doing. WTF? Every 3 months? I install an ASS load of software on my machine and Windows XP runs flawless. And it's been running like this for at least a year. The ONLY reason I reinstalled is because I upgraded my system.

Microsoft just announced it was all a big joke. They're not really releasing a Service Pack 2 for XP... ever.

Is this going to be pushed to us through Windows Update or will we have a choice in downloading and installing?

I would think we would be able to install if desired. But one never knows.

Delayed Again!

Cheers!
Everyone in this thread must have somehow missed this

That was yesterday, I read an announcement from the Microsoft that it would be the 10th, then later today, the same page said it would be tonight...

EDIT: I found the announcement on neowin.net BTW

Frankly, I'm more disheartened at the delay of Win2K3. I don't want to upgrade from Win2K Server until 2K3 has a service pack behind (standard operating precedure) but Spring of 2005?! I don't know if I can wait that long for all it's juicy features.

there is no need to wait, it works fine and dandy without a service pack
