Will Trump fire Jeff Sessions on November 7th?

If dems take the house he needs to take out Rosenstein asap .. asap cant happen with Sessions in the way. So yea, Sessions be going bye bye.
 
I'm thinking a Thanksgiving Day Massacre.

Hope nobody in the Justice Dept. had any major plans for the holidays.

He doesn't need to get rid of Mueller, the next AG will simply limit Mueller's powers and when the report is handed to him by Mueller, he can lock it away and no one will never see it. It'll be interesting to see what happens next.

That won't work. If Dems take the HOR then a Saturday night massacre scenario would give McConnell all the reason he needs to turn on Trump like a snapping turtle. It's obvious obstruction of justice. I figure it would only hasten Trump's demise.

My understanding, from an interview with the guy that wrote the regs Mueller is operating under, is that if the AG tries to suppress the report then by law it must be made available to Congress, at which point it will be leaked.
 
Depends on what happens in the Senate. If Democrats win, he'd have a hard time confirming anyone to replace Sessions.

Two camps but of rather unequal size. Independent voters are very against his firing. Not even a majority of Republicans think he should.

I think this administration has learned that appearances of corruption are irrelevant at least so far. Hopefully, the Dems will win and not go the route they did with the Iraq War, complain until Obama took over and then it was all hugs and kisses and "Oh the Republicans might say bad things and we need to heal the divide" then nothing at all. That is I think a reasonable concern.

We'll see.
 
I think Sessions being fired sometime in the fall after the election seems pretty likely. You either have a scenario where the Republicans hold Congress, at which point Trump knows he can do whatever he wants and he will not be held accountable, or Democrats take one or both houses and he will want to do it while he still has a friendly House and Senate to run cover.

We should all note that Trump has expressed no displeasure at all with how Sessions administers the Justice Department outside of complaining that Sessions is not obstructing justice on his behalf. Trump’s only complaint is that Sessions is not enabling criminal activity by him and his associates.

I think basically no matter what happens we are in for a bad time going forward. If Trump sees he’s going down I think there is very little he wouldn’t do to stay in power. For example in 2020 if he is still around I fully expect him to use the power of the federal government to harm his opponent and help himself, with that escalating if it appears he will lose.

Anything that happens regarding what we already know means things remain ugly.

At the top of this forum we have a thread about those who died in the Iraq War. Those people saw no justice and it was Democrats which are responsible for the lack of closure as they had the ability to do something once Bush was out. We kissed ass instead.

What can you say that won't convince me that once the House falls to the Dems it won't happen again? That Pelosi, Schumer and whoever won't argue for peace with the Reps and just complain about Trump rather than taking action. The strength of the Democratic party spine has been notoriously weak. For Apologists this doesn't mean stay home or vote for Reps, so that ought to head off that nonsense and the shaking of heads for ever greater wrongdoing does not encourage me.

What is your opinion.

So fire Sessions and Rosenstein, move in a crony from another agency who shuts down the Mueller probe, and watch heads explode. If Republicans hold the House in the mideterms then I think its a 50/50 chance that Trump goes this route declaring that the election was the people speaking saying enough is enough and its time to put a stop to this "Mueller Witch Hunt".

I would not be surprised to see Trump nominate Rudy Giuliani as the next AG. He has always been an ardent lickspittle for Trump.

I don’t know that it won’t happen again and I don’t even know if I will oppose it if it does, it all depends on the circumstances.

I have no idea what’s going to happen over the next 2.5 years or so but I strongly suspect we are going to face significant political instability either through a collapse of the rule of law or through impeachment as the facts we have available right now strongly indicate that the president has engaged and is still engaging in criminal activity. (I bet this is the tip of the iceberg too)

At some point we will have to decide what it is worth to restore stability and start the recovery from this disaster. I don’t know what the answer to that is.

If the republicans hold both houses I would put the odds of him firing Sessions and firing or neutering Mueller at over 90%. The remaining 10% is basically the odds I place of him choking on a piece of KFC while writing the order.

Thanks for an honest answer. In my opinion, the risk of Trump remaining president is a non-starter. We're talking about a man with the power and lack of internal restraint to start a war on a whim. I don't think he'll go that far but destroying the DOJ, the regulatory structure, the rule of law itself as it relates to the Executive Branch is well along. Allowing a would-be tyrant who cannot be contained seems to be the worst of all possible choice. Chamberlain pales in comparison to those who permit it, well IMO.

Yes very true. I personally think there is a real strong chance they’ll keep both houses. Democrats aren’t particularly good at getting out to vote lately and historically aren’t good in non presidential elections.
Honestly Trump would have a strong point to say that it’s the will of the people to end the Mueller investigation.
