Speaking of stocking up good deal on meat, how long the meat (chicken, pork, beef) will stay fit to eat if they are in sealed and in the original packages and in the freezer?

1 year? 2 years?

there will likely never be a limit of food prices. It will always gradually go up and up. Foodstamp folks sure can afford to eat good though.

For a number of years, I've been selling my soul by shopping at Walmart in order to save money. However with their sharp and consistent food price increases this year, it's barely saving money and just isn't worth it anymore.

Kroger (Smith's around here) is getting most of my business now.

kroger is DA SHIT! at least they were a few years ago before i moved out of town. man i miss kroger brand food. cheap and good.

Although food prices are up across the board (IMO), it shouldn't be a surprise that Wal-Mart's prices are going up. It's part of their business plan. :)

Move into an established market... keep prices cheap (bolstered by the other stores if needed) to drive competition out of business... then when Wal-Mart is the only one left... Up go the prices.

The store I miss around here the most is Farmer Jacks... they had the best prices in town... although that could be why they are out of business now. lol

Aldi's is the cheapest in my area, although their brands are bunk, some taste fine but they don't accept CC's and you have to bag your own food. I do like how they did their cart system...you insert a quarter to unlock the cart, and if you want your quarter back, you have to put it back up...helps keep stray carts off the parking lot and prevents over laziness...i wish every super market did that.

i agree i LOVE their cart system. i wish every store did it. it would eliminate the carts flying into cars thats for sure.

my roomate says they have aldi's in denmark too. i always wondered, because i knew it was a german company.

i love it too. i think most of their food is really good. i love how much of it doesnt have preservatives.

and also- its pronounced AL-DEES. not ALL-DEES like i always thought. and i learned that from someone who would know! ;)

That's pretty much common practice in germany and probably most of europe.

I know, because as a kid I used to haul back shopping carts that lazy people left for some quick change.

What? I never heard it officially said here in the states, but it's definitely ALL-DEES in germany.
