I agree, but if it is an MMORPG, dont count on it.

Try the IceWind Dale series in the meantime.

i'm in the midst of IWD1 (plus HoW) and i feel like most of the monsters are just thrown at you, without much meaning to their placement. baldur's gate 2, otoh, every monster was in a place for a reason.

However it turns out, it'll have MMO elements in it. I'm thinking something more like a light MMO like guild wars more than a full fledged raiding experience like WoW.

Thats the main thing I didnt like about WoW actually - you had to invest time in it just to get to see and play all the good stuff, and I just couldnt do it.

I just hope that it will be made with the D2:LOD spirit in mind. Single or Multi...it is just SOOOOO much fun.

I just really hope the don't screw it up by making it like WoW.

IceWind Dale is more similar to Diablo than the Baldurs Gate series, I feel that Diablo fans will enjoy it more... less chat and more slash so they say. They would likely find Baldurs Gate boring (because of the focus on plot, dialog, and character development rather than just slaughter) .

If Diablo 3 comes in the MMO form I will cry. I will also cry if Diablo 3 turns into a goofy cartoon like they did to WarCraft when #3 came out.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!!

People like it the way it was, the only thing that should change is an improvement in the graphics department (use DX9 or something), not in the gameplay.

I am a die-hard Diablo II: LOD fan!!!

Now, is there ANY, ABSOLUTELY ANY legitimate word or leaked whispers of another installment of this amazing series???!!

Not only will it continue, it would evolve into two different branches:

1) Hellgate: London

2) Diablo III (that will be made by Blizzard)

However knowing Blizzard MO, Diablo III won't come in anytime soon.

3) Guild Wars.

Three paths.

I consider Titan Quest to be the spiritual successor to the Diablo line even though it wasn't developed by anybody related to Blizzard. I think.

Edit: I should also add I want Diablo 3 NOT "World of Diablo"

Its a very strategic hack and slash game when compared to the Diablo games. Instead of having 1 character and clicking and holding a target until it dies, you have 6 custom designed party members, each with a complete set of unique stats. IWD2 was even better in that regard, introducing more classes, spells, feats, and even some unique dialogue for Asamars and Tieflings. Plus, the IWD games featured better graphics and story lines that the Diablo games.

About the one thing that D2 had better than IWD2 really were its CG cut scenes. IWD2's cut scenes were simply narrated paragraphs on a scrolling back ground.

Should I try to play IceWind Dale 1 before I play IceWind Dale 2 or it doesn't matter?

My girlfriend LOVES D2:LOD almost as much as I do. She kinda likes Titan Quest but doesn't really like Oblivion that much.

What other Diablo-like RPG can I get for her that you think she might like?

I saw some 3rd person footage of HG:L, and it looks similar in some ways to Diablo II, but not really the same. I will definitely be playing that though-- it looks good.

The fact that everyone who made Diablo II left the company is bad news for the game tho...

That's true but I'm still really hoping for a Diablo 3 and that it is a well-done game.

I totally agree. QT + the expansion is the true "spiritual successor" of the Diablo series.

Pfff ... Diablo 3 ...

I really liked D2, and even the original Diablo, but I fear that if D3 is ever made it will turn into a pay-per-month MMORPG, which I won't even bother thinking about getting and will just avoid it. It would take a miracle to remain in the veins of D2's interface and its engine, and not create a fully 3-D game, but I just fear that's where D3 would go, just to please the masses and screw the nostalgics around. Maybe it'd turn out to be good in 3-D, but it wouldn't be good as a pay-per-month or "pay at all" game, believe me. But it could work ... considering that World of Warfcraft worked, if WoW worked, than anything can, seriously.
