Will Smith Interview, Concerning "I, Robot."

LINKY!

I have never read anything of Asimov's up until now, except short stories. I picked up the re-released I, Robot with the movie poster cover. I knew it was a collection of short stories, and was afraid that they were going to release it again and confuse the Hell out of people that knew nothing of Asimov and would think this was supposed to be a novelization of the movie. I am most of the way through the book, and have the trilogy that comes after ready to read after I finish it. I did recognize the first short story about Robbie, I believe I read it in a collection years ago that was titled, Machines That Think, though I am not positive.

Combine that with what I have been reading about the movie, and I have begun to actually have some hope for it. Will it live up to the books? I doubt it, but I think it may be a good movie in it's own right.

You turned down the part of Neo in The Matrix - any regrets?
You know, The Matrix is a difficult concept to pitch. In the pitch, I just didn't see it. I watched Keanu's performance - and very rarely do I say this - but I would have messed it up. I would have absolutely messed up The Matrix. At that point I wasn't smart enough as an actor to let the movie be. Whereas Keanu was smart enough to just let it be. Let the movie and the director tell the story, and don't try and perform every moment.
Very humble!

I saw a preview a couple days ago, and it really looks like a great movie.

That interview was very good. Smith might actually have a brain. 🙂

Yeah, from interviews I've read in the past, Smith is a very intelligent guy:
Like when you were recruited by MIT, but didn't apply.
Yeah. I never had any intention of going. My mother graduated from Carnegie Mellon. She was very serious about college, but I wanted to rap.

Can you imagine what your life would have been like if you had gone?
I would have made a billion dollars and been broke by now. I've always dreamed of a computerized classroom. You'd come in and the teacher wouldn't have to take roll - every desk would have fingerprint roll. They could track you from one class to the other. Computer engineering would've been the only way for me to go.

I would love to see this movie, but I'm not a Will Smith fan..

I don't know why, but I don't think he's a good serious action hero.. He might be good comedy action hero..

I'll most likey check this out I have a pair of free amc tickets I just wish i could use them for special engagements.

Oh yeah... forgive me. 🙂

how come in the previews they never mention that its based off the book? I have a whole bunch of asimov books on my shelf (used to be my dads) that i havn't read. do the previews seem like its anything like the book? or is it another story all hollywood'd up?

If you think the movie looks bad from the trailers, check out the Japanese trailer (It's on Apple's japanese site, I can't remember the URL). It looks MUCH MUCH better, and shows the movie as intelligent rather than the US trailers which try to make it look like every other action movie out there.

From the early reviews, people seem to be really liking it and can't believe how bad the marketing team is making it look here.

I did not know Will Smith could have been Neo! :Q I can't see that working at all. He made a very wise decision by turning it down.

I like him and I plan on seeing the movie.

I am interested in seeing this movie, mainly because I love andriods. When is it coming out?

I had androids once, but I got some cream to rub on my butt and they went away.

Is it just me, or does the interview mention MiB twice in sentences instead of saying MiB and ID4?
