As to Obama, we need to look back to LBJ. When Eugene McCarthy came within 6-7 points of beating him in the '68 New Hampshire primary, LBJ understood his position and folded. Hillary has kept her nose clean in the state dept and after she resigns in the next year or so, she will make a run against him. For the Democrats, dropping a president whose ratings suck and has shown that he cannot do what he promised will make it easy to nominate Hillary.

Hillary will wait until 2016. She can pick up where Obama left off.
 
Still haven't seen anyone mention a viable candidate for '12 reppublican nominee ...

Petraeus and Bolton? Sure. More people responsible for the Iraq debacle. Good idea there.

how do you objectively define "has a shot"?

the last Obama vs (Generic Republican) poll showed a dead heat, and that was a few months ago. I doubt things have improved for Obama in the interim.

the election is a long way away, but right now, I'd say that any non-polarizing Republican figure has a legitimate shot.

There is no one currently on the republican side with the recognition, charisma, campaign/fundraising ability anywhere near what would be needed to win in '12. I still think Palin has the best shot at it and she's not going to win any general election except prom queen.

I'll never understand the left's fascination with her, but I'd be willing to put money on her not winning a single major primary if indeed she even runs (which I'm not fully convinced she wants to... I think she's just in the public spotlight for the money)

Well that is what will make it interesting to watch. I think the Tea Party folks probably cover the spectrum on social issues but they view what is taking place fiscally as a threat not only to them personally but their children and grandchildren as well. That may very well serve to keep them focused on the main goal rather than the diversions of social issues. This fall will be interesting to say the least.
 
Someone like Romney maybe... but if Palin wins the nomination... there's not a ass's chance in Roethlisbergers bathroom that Obama doesn't win again.
 
Jeb(?) Bush is the Republicans best chance. Obama Wins if the Economy improves and it will continue to do so. In fact, the Economy will determine the outcome in this years Election and if it continues, don't expect much change in Party representation.

Her overall #s are which is why I said she has no shot in a general. But the tea baggers and religious fundy right love her and that could == primary wins. She's their star after all.
 
I voted no, however, it is still WAY too early to tell. What he does 12 months from now will be FAR more important to his re-election then anything he does now.

If the election were held today, I don't think he would win, which is why I voted no.

I think the 'end' date is Dec 12, 2012.

Of course it's too far out to hazard a guess as to Obama's re-election. But at this point I do think it's in the realm of possibility that he could be another 1 term President.

I do not look forward to the next election, as I already know the ballot will be stacked with two bad choices, one of which will be President. Romney is a likely suspect.

Well it depends. The current Republicans tend to want someone slightly right of Khamenei. If they put forth a candidate like that, then Obama will win easily. Really, the easiest way to win right now would be to put forth a candidate that actually leans left instead of someone who has a few left views but overall is right of center like Obama. Obama is beginning to show that he's not liberal enough to really fix this country the way it needs to be. And unfortunately the current conservatives have proven that anyone who falls even right of center they think of as a socialist.

I think Obama still has a chance. Unfortunately this oil spill fiasco came at a bad time. And the president cannot fix everything. He was spending so much time fixing the economic problems Bush caused, that he didn't fix the oversight problems Bush caused. And then there's the problems trying to fix Afghanistan which wouldn't exist had Bush handled that anything but ineptly. If the current republicans would actually work with Obama and stop trying their hardest to be complete obstructionists then shit would get fixed. But they don't want shit fixed, they want as many problems as possible so they can blame Obama. Then they'll aim to usher in a massive shift right so they can set up the American version of Iran as a Christian run totalitarian nation with a figure head president that is actually run by high cleric Rush Limbaugh.
