Will mankind have another huge discovery/invention/innovation?

Do you think that mankind will make another amazing advancement such as the use of electricity, before we go extinct? If you look around you, that changed the course of human history so incredibly much. Now it's hard to imagine us finding anything that could help our lives so much, but do you think something similar could happen again? If you do, when do you think it'll happen? The only thing that comes to mind for me would be an encounter of the third kind. Of course, who knows how the future will pan out. What are everyone's thoughts on this?

The next major advancement for mankind will be the realization that there is no God, and that all religion is a pursuit of foolishness. Only when we achieve this, will we be released from the confines of stupidity. Everyone knows this.

Good call, although I can't see it changing life as we know it. Btw, how did your post end up above mine?

This forum software was written by fucking idiots, that's how.

How wouldn't it change life as you know it? Strictly hypothetical, being able to regain eye sight, hearing, limbs, etc... seems pretty life changing no?

How about a pill that induces an orgasm that lasts for as long as you like without all the mess?

A shrinking machine that can miniaturize your body as small as a red blood cell so that you can lick a woman's body all over the place without her even knowing. Being so small you could also abort babies undercover and lift her labia up to take a sniff. You could also do A2M with celebrities.

Controlled Fusion

But you're right... it's hard to imagine something that could revolutionize our lives as much as electricity has.

It hasn't even been that long and society has changed dramatically. It truly is remarkable.

Behold the miracle of stem cells. Now do you believe they are life changing?

The transistor and the microprocessor.

The World Wide Web.

If we don't succumb to the "grey goo," nanotech.

you can already do that!

you just need to consume either a specific something to slow down time, or a specific something to speed it all up. :p

actually, my time can only be stretched. My lack of perception of time, by nature, results in time flying and thank jesus I cannot speed it up. Unfortunately it can slow down without my choosing to do so, like during mundane work.

Injecting swine flu infected stem cells into the cerebral cortex is what makes human time travel possible.

An honest answer for a single advancement that would fundamentally change our way of life? Easy. Teleportation of matter ("beaming"). Think of it. You could live wherever you want and work wherever you wanted. You could go anywhere you wanted at any time. You would have no use for a car, so no use for roads. You would have no use for airports, or airplanes. No goods to be trucked or shipped so no use for trucks or ships. You would also have the potential for mass abuse since you could teleport into any facility and take/destroy whatever you need to. No one would really be safe. But yeah, this would definitely be a PARADIGM SHIFT in our way of life.

oh, and I imagine the next amazing revolutionary discovery will be the ability to breed out stupidity. Starting with religion.
Using that as a starting point, we could fund research into gene therapy, designer babies for all! :)

but seriously, we need to do that. And the only way to get to that point is get rid of all the pro-life retards. We aren't special, and are very flawed. Let's get rid of the flaws and establish a way to fix random flaws that crop up from time to time.
Of course, that also requires colonizing space to have the room.

Move humans everywhere and use Earth as our fertile garden that exports all our required crops to the space colonies, as not everything is easily grown in indoor environments, and that growing space takes up space humans could inhabit.
Moon colony, Mars colony, large space stations. Science fiction... for now. Or forever if we don't do it quickly enough and get ourselves all dead like.
