Will Intel's 45nm send AMD to the grave?

So when Intel starts rolling out their 45nm chips, do you think AMD will die? I don't think AMD has the resources to match 45nm...

Intel got cocky and greedy and AMD was able to pwn them.

I guess what I'm asking is since Intel has woken up and decided to put some money into trying to beat AMD, if AMD has the resources to catch up. Sort of like Cold War where Russia didn't have enough money to keep up with US and lost.

amd will just step it up and release dual cor 45nm by years end, and pwn Intel. Also, anyone have info on the new Mac Intel chips ,and are the x86/x64?

Intel is in a bind as they usually are. Sure their new desktop cpus are going to be sweet but I dont believe AMD is just going to sit back and do nothing about it, at leats I hope they dont. As long as there are Intel and AMD prices will continue to fall. So GO AMD!!!!

Google seems to have faith in AMD. Their new deployable datacenters are using huge clusters of dual-core Opterons.

Good point, AMD Dual core 65nm will prolly beat Intel 45nm

AMD will have 45nm too. Intel is not going to be the only 45nm fab out there, at least not for long. Also, the speedups from these die shrinks are becoming smaller and smaller, so the main benefit is that you can fit twice as many parts per wafer, or make each part twice the area. But if you are just using that double area to add more cache, there are diminishing returns when doing that. And if your 45 nm yields are a lot lower than mature 65nm process, then you don't actually get twice the working parts per wafer either. So there are a lot of variables involved here. Of course there are advantages to 45nm, but it's not so that if you have 45nm a few months earlier you are gonna bankrupt your competition.

I don't think that AMD is going to go away any time soon. AMD will always have some sort of awnser to anything Intel does, it might not always match up (Barton 3200+ vs Intel P4 3ghz), but it'll still be an awnser, and if it doesn't match up, that only makes them work harder to out do it.

Was Intel put to the grave when AMD walked all over them? No.
Why would AMD be put down?
Why are retarded threads like these not locked immediately?

Naw, the market will always contain competition.
I would be willing to bet that intel would dump serious money into AMD just to keep them afloat.

Whats your point? The first google datacenters were using Transmeta blades.

Are you saying an X2 running at a 90W TDP is better than a comparable Yonah running at about a 30W TDP?

yonah is a mobile CPU though, while conroe is meant to compete with the X2 on the desktop side, correct?

No. He's talking about comparing an X2 w/ a Presler. Why would he compare TDP with a desktop processor and the Yonah, a mobile processor?

NO, AMD is probably at the moment researching 45 nm cpu's. AMD chips i find are better especially for the price u pay.

Perclock Yonah is about the same speed as X2.
