How is that misrepresentation? The president would literally be representing the majority of the people who live in the country. Skew it further and it only makes more sense (e.g. if 90% of people lived in cities). Why should that 10% be so heavily weighted?
Popular vote is arguably more fair. It means red votes in blue states counts, and blue votes in red states count.

Perhaps crafting better policy positions would help a certain party attract more than just its core voters?

I agree that the Dems have a messaging problem. They have to find a way to convince the blue collar workers and the working poor to stop voting against their self interests. It's been a problem since blue collar workers swooned over Reagan's crooning and voted for him despite the fact that his policies were designed to hurt them. Having good policy proposals alone doesn't work; the Dems have to convince blue collar and working poor voters that economic policies that affect them are more important than continuing the circus sideshow that is the Republican platform.

They won a majority in all those cases, just a smaller majority than in 2018. They also won the presidency by a historically large margin over an incumbent.

Like I said the system is rigged against them but the idea that Democrats are not appealing to voters is obviously wrong as shown by the, well, votes.

The main crux, is that we're a representative democracy.

A representative democracy has nothing to do with the electoral college. It means we democratically elect representatives to represent us vs a direct democracy.

If the Republicans had their way we'd have perfect healthcare, no crime or prison systems, legal marijuana, perfect taxes, income inequality resolved, etc. Got it. Fully agree with the OP. All the US needs to do is get rid of the democratic party and just let Mitch McConnel run the country the same way Kentucky is run. That makes sense. Let's just turn the whole US into Kentucky, Mississippi and Florida because these poster child GOP US states is what we should be shooting for in terms of the whole country.
