Will an Alpha PEP66 help me?

I currently have a GOrb. My PIII-700 runs at 43C idle, close to 50C full load. I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and it's pretty hot here now (88F). I can't overclock my CPU beyond 850MHz, and it's a Cb0. Mobo is ABIT BX133.

Thanks

If you have a heat problem, yes an Alpha will help. With a hiflow fan there isn't much that will cool better. Be sure to use good thermal grease.
IMHO

I had a GOrb on my Celeron 566@850 and I saw a noticeable decrease in CPU temp (2-3C) while under full load when I switched to a PEP66. For example, while running RC5 and Prime95 simultaneouly my CPU temp would reach around 38-39C; however, now with the Alpha the same conditions never result in a temp. over 35C.

Pretty good in my book. . . .

That's the problem... will 2 or 3 degress make much of a difference? Is it worth 36 dollars (price of the Alpha)

if you can't get past 850, its either an AGP problem or another problem. The CHIP probably isn't the source of your trouble.

Well in some cases, a drop of 2-3C in temp can mean a huge difference in terms of stability and being able to go higher.

But, in your case, the drop in temp will probably not help you. . .

I don't think heat is his problem, probably either component or CPU limit.

BlueWeasel,

I wholeheartedly agree, but not in this case. His CPU temps aren't that high, and chances are his CPU isn't capable of higher overclocks...

MikeWarrior:

Not meaning to be rude or a smarta$$, but what do you not agree with? I thought I was just adding to your earlier post - getting the Alpha will probably not help him clock the chip any higher.

He has probably reached the O/C limit of the chip.

Sorry for any confusion. . .

No, I was saying I wholeheartedly agree that a few C can often make a difference, but I likewise Agree that in this case it probably won't help him.

Doh!. . . it made perfect sense after I read your post again. Sorry for the brain lapse. . .
