Will a HD6950 2GB run eyefinity at 5120x3200? or wait 6 months for HD7990 4GB

Read the OP people. He plays RTS games. There are no crosshairs in the middle of the screen to worry about. It's the one genre that can be played on a 2x1 setup.

To the OP, have you considered the 6990? Though I don't know how well it does at that specific resolution.

Do you think my system will run games in eyefinity at 5120x1600 rez?

You have the card, so you should be able to test it out. If it's too slow, just grab a 2nd 6950. I am guessing an HD6950 unlocked into a 6970 will be OK.

Or would i need to buy two (22nm) HD7970 2GB, HD7990 4GB cards when they come out in 6 months

That's not happening. HD7990 is most likely going to launch in 2012.

If i upgrade to a GTX580 now would it give me more then 32FPS!

GTX580 is not better than HD6950 in CF for the same price for higher resolutions. So it's a no-no from the start unless you are going SLI. GTX580 is arguably the 2nd worst card this generation (right behind the 6990). So recommending it almost makes no sense when GTX560 950-1000mhz SLI or HD6950-->HD6970 CF setup will blow it out of the water for your resolution.

To the OP, have you considered the 6990? Though I don't know how well it does at that specific resolution.

Makes no sense. $200 more expensive than GTX560 OCed SLI or HD6950 CF setup and not any faster, but is significantly louder.

I'd think for a lot of games over 1920x1200 the 560s would be seriously lacking in the vram department.

Thank's for the help guys!

After playing games for a while now at max 5120x1600 rez.. it looks like the ones i play run fine on 1 single 6950 2GB card... so until there's a need i wont grab another card..

One thing worth noting is my system uses twice the system ram at 5120x1600 then it did at 1920x1200 gaming

My task manager in windows 7 reports my system memory usage is at or over 7GB's .. strange must be a high rez thing.

Interesting. Do you recall what it's usage was before?
