My grandmother was able to get her 50" DLP into her prius with the box and everything.

I would hope a plasma has a slightly smaller box.

A Prius is a hatchback.

yeap. they have a decent amount of room.

teh op needs a smaller TV 50" is to big!

There is no such thing as a TV that is too big IMO. :p

no way...go rent a truck or go borrow someones car/van/truck...believe me, 32" was hard as hell to get in the back of a 3 series sedan.

Had trouble getting my 32 inch LCD in my Mazda Protege, a 4 door sedan. The problem's not with interior volume, it's with getting it to fit through a DOOR that will kill you. Trust me, you will never ever get this to fit.

Think of it this way, the square footage of the box is going to be more than that of, say, a bicycle. Try putting a bicycle into your car and see how well that works.

You should definitely NOT lay the TV flat. Laying flat by itself won't kill it, but a small bump will put a tremendous strain on the screen and could break it.

Get a truck! DO NOT try and transport a 50" plasma in your car. Even if you COULD fit it in your car, you're going to have to lay it flat, and that is definitely NOT recommended. It needs to be transported upright. Have them deliver it to you, or get a friend with a truck to help you out.

Exactly. The ONLY thing a 50" TV is too big for is, the OP's car.

I'm also picking up 50" from CC this weekend, as well as a 40" LCD. Think it will fit in my Avalanche? :p

There is no way you'll fit it in your car inside the box. Maybe if you take it out of the box but that's a big maybe.

basicially the 42 inch TV came in a box that was prob 50in long X 2 feet widex 4 feet tall

Agreed.

I was going to do the same thing last week with my 50", but the guy said you can't lay it down (I didn't know that at the time).

So I got my truck and came back. When I saw the TV with packaging it never would have fit even if I did lay it down.

The thing is around 6 feet long 4 feet tall and 2 feet wide.

shens

call shens all you want.

With the seats folded down on that prius, that box was able to lay on its side just fine and still get the rear door shut. Fact.

You aren't supposed to lay a plasma TV on its side. Not to mention the fact that a plasma TV will weigh about 200lbs more than a comparable DLP set.

Not a chance unless you take it out of the box and I strongly advice against that because the screen might crack. I had tried it with a Panasonic 42" Plasma on my 4 doors sedan with fold down seats and the box was just too big to fit. Call a friend with a truck of SUV.

Is your door smaller than standard size?

Unless your carrying the TV in flat. if you held it up right it'll fit through standard size door with ease.

Most plasma tv depth is only 3-5 inches. Its highly unlikely the box's depth will be any bigger than 20 inches. Standard door opening width is about 29inches.

Have you ever tried to put even a 42" plasma in a large sedan?

It ain't gonna happen. It sure as hell won't happen with a 50".

Uhh yeah it can. My brother and I purchased a 42" Samsung Plasma HDTV for mom for Christmas and we fit it in the back of his sedan. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you what type of sedan it was, because his car was in an accident so he had some rental car. It was a midsize sedan I believe. It also had to be removed from the box.

Also, you should never ever ever ever lay a Plasma or a DLP down on its face. A LCD TV can be laid down on its face.

So to take it home, you'll probably have to set it on the floor leaning against your back seat... maybe bring some cushioning for it. Either that or it won't fit.

No, especially if you want to transport it in the recommended vertical position. Even a 37" TV has a significantly large box.

hmm i guess i could take it out of the box and put it in the car... car is a nissan altima.

A 46" Shap Aquos LCD barely fit flat in the box in my Ford Escape SUV with the seat folded down. A 50" or 52" would not fit in it, in the box, in my Escape, unless I had the box stuck in at an angle.

Go to Ebay and find a seller who gives accurate box dimensions for the item and go outside and measure it out. I noticed some companies do not list the shipping box size on their websites. My guess would be, no, it will not fit, in or out of the box.

Or just tie it down flat in the box on the top of the car, LOL!

Actually a 50" plasma will weight about 110 lbs with box and the box size will be 53.3 x 39.3 x 18.1 inch +/- 1". But as the others have said NEVER lay a plasma down!
