Side note- I cannot wait for this game. My kids are playing tons of Sonic Racing All Stars in between Lego games and Rayman Legends, to hold themselves over. We have a blast playing Sonic. Can only imagine this will be even better.

Another bundle from Nintendo? No wai!

I like Mario Kart but not a system seller for me. Where is the new Zelda dang it.

the only good mario kart is the SNES version, with the first DS version being 2nd best. the franchise started to go to crap with the N64 version. that game took zero skill to get good at. since then the game has just gotten easier and easier. i will admit though the last one i tried was the wii version, and you can basically beat the game with a blindfold on. the game has zero sense of speed too.

the SNES one actually took skill. i'm glad they have at least got the jump/slide back that they had removed starting with the crappy N64 version. i had such high hopes for the N64 one, but then after a week and having it already mastered, it was so boring.

it's just a racing game for people who suck at racing games to feel good about.

I agree completely. The SNES one was best, heck its battle mode is my favorite splitscreen multiplayer experience of all time.

I hate download codes. I'd probably end up selling the code and buying a physical copy of the game.

You can also double dip by getting $10 in gas for your car by preordering it. Couple with the free game download and you're looking at a bargain. You can almost sense the desperation in Nintendo to move stock.

Wii U's problems go away entirely if the install base grows past a certain point so I can see why.

One person's "desperation" is another's "well executed marketing strategy". The industry analysts will applaud this as a smart move, for the reason dguy said.

Anyway - 4 weeks until MK8. Can't wait.

With Mario Kart 8 you'll have a club Nintendo registration code in the box. When you register, you'll get your game download credit.

I have to admit, I was going to wait on Mario Kart 8, and now I'm very seriously considering a pre-order. 2 first party Nintendo games for essentially 50 bucks, is a pretty decent deal.

Yeah, it's like they will do anything to sell these things. I'm not sure Mario Kart will do it though, maybe a small jump but nothing spectacular.

Does anyone know how the gas card works? Do you have to order direct from nintendo? I was going to get new super mario next, anyway, so might as well get it with mario kart.

i hate how mario kart handicaps the person in front. the best version of the game was probably the one for the ds. the skill ceiling was high because of the snaking but then you couldn't really do that anymore with the subsequent games.

My wife got me a Wii U for my birthday. I was very surprised by it. I play it more than my other consoles or PC right now. I have MK8 and SSB pre ordered and can't wait. Really looking forward for MK8!

MK8 reviews are coming out. They're all in the 8-10 range.

Mario Kart 8 is the best kart racing game Nintendo has made in a long time. It strikes a careful balance between refining old ideas while introducing fresh new ones. Admittedly, its gorgeous graphics and jazzy orchestrated soundtrack bolster its presentation, but you’re getting a lot more than just looks with this one – although I spent an awful lot of time gawking at the details in slow-motion, the fast and furious pace of racing with friends both locally and online is what really kept me coming back.

Racing skill determines who wins and who loses. That's true if you're competing with a group of friends (local splitscreen supports up to four players, and you can play against 11 people in the game's smooth online races) or striving for gold medals against the computer (50cc, 100cc, 150cc, and Mirror Mode are all here). And by having the importance of weapons significantly reduced, it's now much harder to make up ground once you're stuck in the middle of the pack. There's no instant-win item to come in and save you, so you have to climb back slowly and surely by maximizing your speed and finding the best racing lines while hoping those in the lead make a mistake. Defense has become more important than in previous games. With the introduction of the super horn, you can repel any item flung at you, and simply keeping a shell or banana trailing behind your kart blocks almost any attack mounted against you. Even the star has been toned down. It still grants you invulnerability, but you're no longer infused with super speedy gasoline, which lessens the impact it has. It's fascinating just how different Mario Kart 8 is from, say, its Wii counterpart. It's so much less chaotic and so much more focused that their similarities are largely cosmetic.

The best 'Mario Kart' ever
Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U finally provides some hope. If I get lucky and grab the new super-horn, a box that emits a stunning pulse strong enough to knock back other racers and negate the explosive impact of the blue shell, it'll all be okay. It's a rare item and I've only collected a handful after playing hours of the game over the past two weeks, but that hope is enough. Yes, a blue shell is coming. But maybe, just maybe, I'll be ready for it.

Mario Kart 8 isn't drastically different than past games in the series. The structure, controls, and items are all largely the same as the Mario Kart games you played on your DS or Nintendo 64. But a few seemingly small additions and tweaks, like the super horn or the new anti-gravity feature that lets you drive on walls and ceilings, have a surprisingly big impact on the experience. Mario Kart 8 is full of life and ideas — and it might just be the best game in the series to date.

hmn I'm thinking of getting a WIIu. The kids and i play mario kart often and enjoy it. these bundles seem pretty good.
