Are those Australian prices? Expansion Pak was included with Donkey Kong 64 (also required for any gameplay). I remember it being $29.99 when it came out. Zelda however was a premium game, one of the rare ones to cost $59.99 way back in the day.

I bought the expansion pack stand alone, and it was the price of a game unless I am severely mistaken. I think bought MM for the price of a game as well. I did get the special edition Zelda though. DK64 came with it bundled, so it was cheaper.

Because it doesn't exist. So glad I dumped my Wii U a couple of months ago. None of those games do much for me with exception of Zelda but that's a remake.

Nintendo has already confirmed that Mario 3D, Smash Bros, and Mario Kart will make an appearance at E3 in playable forms. Wind Waker HD was announced in January. Pikmin is releasing August 4th, Rayman in September. The only unknown is what Retro Studios is up to - people suspect it's Metroid but it could be something else.

^^ cool news about the 3d mario. if it looks good that could get me to buy a wii-u if the price for console + game is like around $250 or possibly $300. don't care about any of the other games mentioned though.

Too bad it's all rumors. WiiU can't survive on rumors, we need certainties for an uncertain console.

I just think that if anyone takes a step back and looks at this, I don't see how it makes any sense. E3 is huge, not only will all the press be there, but gamers from around the world watch or follow it to see what will sell them on a system. Now Nintendo is dropping from it. I know that whatever they had would be overshadowed by the PS4 and Next Xbox, but at least show people that you are still developing games.

It makes perfect sense. Before E3 starts, before the press conferences, before the keynotes, and before the doors open they will have 2 events. First a meeting with retailers, talking about their strategy and their games and hardware. Getting the distributors and retail giants excited.

The second event is for the press. It's a hands on booth with every Wii U game they are working on. Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Pikmin, Wonderful 101, 3D Mario are all going to be playable. All this before Sony and Microsoft even step in the door that day.

Then the press will go post to their blogs and such about what they played.

So purebeast who doesn't have a fucking clue? It's you.

Every single person who knows they aren't doing a keynote found out online. Those same people will find out on day one of E3 what games were playable, how they were, what will be shipping and when. They will find out from the same sources that said "No Nintendo Keynote speech at E3".

Too bad it's all rumors. WiiU can't survive on rumors, we need certainties for an uncertain console.

They aren't rumors...

God you guys are ridiculous. Nintendo confirmed they are playable. Yeah, you will be able to play those games on day one of E3. Some of them are very, very far into development. How can you confirm a playable game and you say it's a rumor?

Until they announce release dates, it's all rumors. Plus, Nintendo is notorious for pushing releases back further and further. Granted, their games usually end up great but it's getting too little too late since the new systems are already going to be here soon.

New systems won't have a billion games initially. They'll be like every launch. A couple good ones and a bunch of stinkers and some time between releases. That's why I think having a Wii U, from my perspective, will pay off. There will be great titles to play while waiting the next release for the PS4 which I also plan to have. Nintendo doesn't usually announce a release for a game until it's close or pretty much assured. When they do preorders for Zelda at retail they put a place holder date because they don't have a date from Nintendo. When they do some other titles they have to keep changing the date due to development delays etc. Having worked at retail gives me a different view of this based on what has traditionally happened for different developers and publishers. Some will give a date and it'll be a soft date (can change). Some give a firm date. Some give no date, but you know it will come eventually. Some retailers mess up by telling everyone September 1st for such and such game and then later "oh no it's December 14th now". It's crazy sometimes.

It's no rumor though that they will have playable versions of everything ready to go. We will have plenty of information and videos I'm sure.

they aren't really even fighting games, they are more party games. i just hate the engine in it in general.

Smash Bros can be a crazy/fun game to play, but I thought I was the only one that didn't really consider it a fighting game. :$ I mean... to call it a fighting game would be like saying a pillow fight is the equivalence of a battle scene in Spartacus!

i agree 100%, which is why this is a bad sign for nintendo. if they do have these awesome exclusives and lineup coming out, why not talk about them for an hour, AND show them off on the floor and in these other pressers and release meetings.

i know i personally like to pay attention to the keynotes and then i kind of tune out the rest of e3 since it's going on during the work day for the most part. i do see videos and pictures of things there, but for the most part my focus is on the keynote and that's what i look forward to the most.

I don't know if I really agree. I do think that the keynote works well as a huge, information dump. Although, on that note, Sony could probably learn a thing or two and learn to shorten the presentation a bit! The thing is... is it really that useful at a trade show like E3? It sounds like Nintendo is planning on having a lot of games in a playable state, so why not just skip the keynote where all you show are videos and let the people play the game! Let them report about the gameplay!

Also, keep in mind that if people put the gameplay videos on YouTube, Nintendo can make some monies by putting ads up there. ;)

you still haven't given a reason why NOT having a keynote is a good idea. you've simply stated they are having smaller gatherings prior, which most people already know. there is absolutely nothing good about NOT having a keynote. you act as if they DID have one they couldn't also do those smaller events.

why not do the small events AND a keynote?

It costs $$$$$ to put on those keynotes and they will be overshadowed by sony and ms hardware announcements. Its a logical business decision, they will enjoy some positive press before the show starts.

It was mentioned announced a while back http://www.polygon.com/2013/1/23/39...titles-in-development-for-wii-u-will-be-shown

Would recommend watching the Nintendo directs.

again, nothing about them being playable. just that they will be there. would definitely be more excited if mario is definitely going to be playable, but that one sounds like it could legitimately be out this year.

whenever i think about nintendo "showing" games that aren't playable, i can't NOT think about when they showed off the awesome, dark zelda game for the gc, then a year later it had transformed into windwaker. f u nintendo for doing that. i can forgive, but i'll never forget!

i don't find that logical at all. if that was the logical thing to do, then sony and ms shouldn't have had a keynote when nintendo revealed the wii-u.

Does this mean Wii U and its supporters have mostly given up on the idea of it having any third-party titles? Makes sense, the thing will never play next gen games.

so basically there is no reason you can come up with either, which is what a few of us have been saying all along. gotcha.

it's hilarious how some people on this board think that people who disagree with them are trolling.

I'm sure Pikmin 3 was playable last year. Until they give us a firm release date, it's nothing worth banking on.

/looks at EAs mainstream franchises
/not caring

I think the world will get by with only 9 versions of Battlefield and 1 less version of Madden...

Think of the internet bandwidth saved with one less console downloading gun skins all the time.

I can see some merit to what Nintendo is doing, and I tend to agree with you WRT Nintendo as a consumer so I am definitely not a fanboy.

If they think they are in a position to be competitive at the show, they will AT LEAST have to share the spotlight.. We have all seen E3 coverage before, it reads like a list.

Sony is doing blablabla
MS is doing blablabla
Nintendo is doing blablabla

At worst, they will compare unfavorably to the "Big 2", at best they will be lost in the noise anyway.

By NOT showing up, it creates exclusivity for the "pre-shows".. Media will want to be there vs thinking "eh, ill just wait for the main show". Nintendo also owns the spotlight so to speak, and any coverage will be focused on their platform (double edge sword admittedly)

They also get people's first look before everyone is saturated from news of the show.

Granted, the comparisons will be made anyway but when you are in Nintendo's Marketing position what else are you going to do ?

Nintendo announced that they will be demoing some of their upcoming games at Best Buy during E3. They didn't say which ones, but the article talked about Sonic: The Lost World, Super Luigi U, and Mario and Sonic: Winter Games.

I hope the Sonic game is good, and I don't mean the silly crossover one!

After how many years of awful 3D Sonic games are you going to keep hoping they will release a good one? Sonic Adventure was the last good Sonic game. =(
