Might be wishful thinking on my part, but some of the rumors about titles coming out this fall and winter have me pretty excited.

1. New 3D Mario
2. Mario Kart
3. Smash Bros
4. Zelda HD
5. Rayman
6. Metroid game (might be next year, but expected to be announced)
7. Pikmin (technically end of summer)

It's too bad they were able to space these out better - I'm planning to pick up a PS4 and I am interested in all of these titles, but likely will only be able to grab two or so.

Smash bros!!! To bad it's on Nintendo. A new Smash Bros for Nextbox or Ps4 would probably be awesome!

Yeah there's gonna be way too much happening this year in gaming for me to keep up. I'll probably only get one or two PS4 games at launch though to save some cost for Nintendo titles. Depends on what gets pushed back too, as I expect a couple of them to be.

Has Nintendo created a new IP in 30 years? All I see are sequels to the same old series. While I love the nostalgia of Zelda and Mario, there has to be something equally new and fun. At least bring something different like Kid Icarus back.

We're half way through MAY, and there hasn't been a peep about a new 3D Mario game. Nothing.

It would be nearing completion with rumors/info/previews galore.

Saying there's going to be a new 3D Mario game this year or fall is just downright silly and unfounded.

"Zelda HD", I assume you mean is the HD version of Wind Waker, correct? Yes, that should be out in early fall I believe.

Other than that...who knows.

Each game is new and fun. It just stars the same characters. It's infinitely better than Assassin's Creed and CoD each year though.

Not so unfounded...http://www.ign.com/videos/2013/05/03/news-new-3d-mario-reportedly-coming-by-october

Report comes via CVG from retail sources citing meetings on an executive level to restore faith in the WiiU platform. Report states that marketing campaign will begin at E3 and the game will be playable oin the show floor. Reported to be released before October. Yes rumor, but not unfounded. There could very well be something there.

Remember how Nintendo is skipping the big hoopla stage show at E3 and instead showing off their games to press and retailers? Yeah there's a reason for that. They want to show off all the games they've been working on.

Either way we will know on day one of E3 what games are coming and when. That much is clear.

Difference is those IP are for the most part the same in name and identifiable icons only the majority of the time. Unlike Activision and EA, they can use the same IP over and over again in completely new games. Super Mario Galaxy for example, is not just Super Mario 64 with new skins and perks.

It's one thing to reuse IP. It's another to recycle the same physical game over and over.

Ok Metroid Prime 1-3 suffered from CoD syndrome, and would be indistinguishable from one another to an outside observer, but definitely not Zelda or Mario.

Each game has always been a new and unique experience, with a FEW exceptions (Majora's Mask = "map pack" for Ocarina of Time, but that game is disowned by many hardcore Zelda fans, not salivated over like other "map pack" games I need not mention...)

only game that could excite me on that list is a new 3d mario, and one that is closer to mario 64 than mario galaxy. don't care for these stupid ass remakes in hd. if i wanted to play them i'd just play the old versions. but i guess they are good for people who never played them originally.

smash bro's and mario kart are awful franchises, and i've never played pikmin nor do i plan on it. metroid could be cool, but a rumor about an announcement doesn't do much for me.

Sign of a dying company: literally rehashing or remastering old games.

Square was doing it too.

Both Square and Nintendo, companies failing to understand what made them great and incorporating that into modern technology, so instead re-release the old games that made you what you are on the new systems with virtually no effort!

Er...no.

SMG, particularly SMG 2, were excellent games. They took some time getting used to, but they had some excellent segments and really fun stages/worlds. SMG2 was markedly better than the first game, to be sure, but even SMG1 was good.

But let's be very clear; they were no SM64.

Part of the problem was the awful, gimmicky, annoying "waggle and nunchuk" controls foisted on the player in the SMG games. Hated that.
The other downside was the severely disorienting nature of them. Running around on tiny little orb-like planetoids while the camera spun trying to get a decent angle was severely disorienting, and until I REALLY got used to it, actually made me nauseous.

Contrast that to SM64, where just picking the controller, you could IMMEDIATELY jump into the game, feel confident with all the controls, and nearly every level was a treat.

I'm hopeful, if for no other reason, than Nintendo doesn't have that awful, gimmicky wiggle/nunchuk crap this time, so at least that annoyance can be excluded.
Same with the Zelda franchise.

I wish they'd go back to doing something interesting like they did on the Gamecube. Initially I hated that, but ended up liking it a lot. Well not Mario Sunshine, but I'd take that over the 2D ones.

Mario Kart and Smash Bros have been really disappointing. Mario Kart for a while and Brawl just really could have been so much better. I'm a bit concerned about it though, as the talk was it would be in development for a while, so I hope they didn't decide to rush it to try and stem their problems. Then again, if all the extra time goes to putting in a bunch of crap that doesn't matter like in Brawl it might not be so bad.

How can you say that about Smash Bros? That is one of the best fighting games ever!

i agree about mario galaxy. i was a big fan of the game although a bit skeptical going into it. great games though.

they aren't really even fighting games, they are more party games. i just hate the engine in it in general.

All of those games might be announced at E3, but there's no way they are being released this year. If that were the case, why on earth did they not say anything during E3 last year about them?? If they had a few screenshots or set up a blog about Smash like they did with Brawl, I wouldn't have sold my Wii U. Makes me think it's still a year+ away.

This doesn't make sense to me. More consumers now check out the E3 press conferences, so why not have a show to show off all these games? What do they gain by skipping it?

it doesn't make any sense in the least.

'they arent having a keynote at e3, which is the biggest event in the gaming industry by far, to show off all of their new games to the entire world. instead they are going to be showing it off to retailers and the press at smaller locations, even though they will all be at e3 and paying attention to it. that is why they are skipping it.'

i've come to realize that cmdrdredd really doesn't have a clue 99% of the time.

I just think that if anyone takes a step back and looks at this, I don't see how it makes any sense. E3 is huge, not only will all the press be there, but gamers from around the world watch or follow it to see what will sell them on a system. Now Nintendo is dropping from it. I know that whatever they had would be overshadowed by the PS4 and Next Xbox, but at least show people that you are still developing games.

i believe they are going to be at e3, just not have their keynote speech. they probably aren't doing it because every year since the wii and ds came out, they've gone up there and rubbed their own nuts for 45 out of the 60 minutes talking about how many sales they have had and how nintendo consoles print money.

but with the wii-u, they can't really go and spout numbers for 45 minutes, since the numbers have sucked. so they would have to fill that whole hour with just games. and since they probably don't have much to show off since their lineup seems to be very weak (as we know of now), they simply aren't doing it.

there is absolutely no positive that can come from them NOT having a keynote when they've had one at e3 as long as i can remember. i'd love for them to get up on stage and show off mario 128 and a new zelda game. but since they probably don't have one, they can't do it. no one wants to see them show off zombi-u or whatever in a keynote. they need the AAA first party titles if they are to show off anything.

I know they will be there, but like I said, most gamers are tuning in to the pressers, wanting to see what will be talked about. I think in the end it won't help anything. If you are so confident in your upcoming games, how could it hurt to get up and do a big show? That's the one thing that no Nintendo fan has been able to answer on any forums I go to. Why would it hurt to do your press and show off these "must have" exclusives that Nintendo fans are always talking about?

i agree 100%, which is why this is a bad sign for nintendo. if they do have these awesome exclusives and lineup coming out, why not talk about them for an hour, AND show them off on the floor and in these other pressers and release meetings.

i know i personally like to pay attention to the keynotes and then i kind of tune out the rest of e3 since it's going on during the work day for the most part. i do see videos and pictures of things there, but for the most part my focus is on the keynote and that's what i look forward to the most.

The only people who think Majora's Mask was a "map pack" for Ocarina of Time were either to young to remember it, or complete morons. It was much darker, harder, and incredibly full of everything you wanted in a Zelda game. It was better than OoT imo. I enjoyed it much more. The real problem with it, was that it required the RAM expansion for the N64 which was the cost a game to begin with. That meant if you didn't already own it (for Rogue Squadron, which was the only other game IIRC before MM that even used it optionally) you had to pay double the price: $64.99 X 2.

Info I read seems to suggest these games will all be this year, with the exception of Metroid (assuming it even IS metroid, its the same studio who made those). Nintendo has been moving away from big E3 shows and using Nintendo Direct to reach fans. It's working well, I look forward to watching those every single month. Frankly I think it's smart business - most of the press will be enamored with the PS4 and Xbox releases, so let them focus on that. I hope/suspect Nintendo will actually be a sleeper hit at E3 this year.

I played through Wind Waker on Gamecube and will likely pick up the HD re-release, it was one of my favorites. Nintendo is also soliciting fan feedback on how to improve Wind Waker, so I suspect it will be more than just a fresh layer of paint - there is rumor of them adding additional dungeons that were cut near the end of the game. So you might see his as a "Director's Cut" edition type of thing.

I like the Nintendo characters and I find their games to be very innovative - there is a layer of familiarity but each game plays substantially differently. I am primarily a PC gamer - but the most pure gaming joy I get is from Nintendo titles I play. I admit, a lot of it is probably nostalgia, but I always have fun and to me that is what gaming is about. They relax me more - probably because I primarily play first person shooters on my PC and I'm ultra competitive :)

I forgot to mention - Earthbound! Woo!

Are those Australian prices? Expansion Pak was included with Donkey Kong 64 (also required for any gameplay). I remember it being $29.99 when it came out. Zelda however was a premium game, one of the rare ones to cost $59.99 way back in the day.
