Wii - no DVD yet they're trying to capture the women/elderly market?

They are doing exactly what they have been doing for the past 10 years. Coming out with something that plays good, looks good, etc. and then a year later or whenever they come out with an upgraded better version.

The DS, every Gameboy they created, and now the Wii. I think Nintendo has been doing a grade A job milking money from the consumer.

Kaido you misunderstood, as well as some other people. This piece, as well as several news pieces like it, are referring to the controller, the wiimote. Which has already proven to be a lot more fun to use for the non-gamer than anything currently out there.

It is not a matter of whether the Wii looks like a console or plays dvds. The entire piece is about modifying the controller in an attempt to level the playing field and make it more accessible to people who have never played games before.

Good point, although they do talk about price. The point I'm trying to make is that if they want to have broader appeal, they should have included a DVD player right off the bat. Half the people I know own one of those tiny $35 Cyberhome DVD players. I'm sure a lot of people with young kids wouldn't mind getting a small Wii to act as both the game player and movie player. Not a big deal anymore as they are releasing a model with DVD functionality
