Nintendo aims to get women, elderly to purchase its Wii
and yet...
NOA confirms that Wii will not play Hollywood DVD movies.
Nintendo has also admitted that DVD playback will not be possible on the Wii, saying the move was due to DVD players being so cheap that it saw no need to include the functionality, thereby increasing the cost of the Wii hardware. link

If they want to sell to mothers who don't want consoles in their living rooms, they should have included a DVD player...the Wii is a nice-looking unit, and I know my mom would rather have one box in her living room that two or three. This one goes right up there on the scoreboard with whoever decided to change the name from "Revolution" to "Wii"
