Wife wants new Android phone .... good camera wanted

I am not sure if I agree with that. How about bokeh or otherwise focus-manipulated shots? Our eyes normally do not see objects that way. (maybe right after getting punched in the eyes? heh) Do you think such techniques are also "covering up for the deficiencies of the camera itself?"

That's an intentional technique used by the photographer, that's different. In the aforementioned case it's just the phone automatically applying that to everything it takes.

It's like...why do you think Instragram was so novel when it came out? Let's be serious, those filters didn't really make the average teenager an artist. What it really did was cover up the fact that early iPhones had terrible cameras, so their blurry, noisy shots suddenly looked "deep" and "introspective".

Now i just need to find it in stock lol. Nice find if i can get for $250. Original Moto X feeling a bit old even though i dont really have an issue with it lol

My wife had a 2013 x dev edition and the gs6 edge I got her is massive upgrade. The screen is so much better as well as the camera. The battery life is the only down side though it is better than the x.

Not sure what you're getting at. If I take a picture higher than 16 MP (say 21 MP), and upload it to Google Photos, it will retain all 21 MP and the size shows the same on my desktop as it does on Google Photos. I have an 18 MP P&S, and it truly retains the ORIGINAL image from the camera. I just checked. Remember, I do pay for 100 GB Google Drive, and Photos uses this storage.

I am saying if you upload a file that is <16MP it will compress it further with the unlimited option. The claim that Google photos is unlimited for <16MP photos is not really true (well I guess it has some truth to it) as you cannot upload an unlimited number of <16MP photos without compromising the quality.

This is why I personally cannot accept Google photos unlimited as a substitute for an SD card in a phone with a good camera, even those with <16MP.

There are two settings when backing up to Google Photos.

"High Quality". This won't count against your storage quota so you can upload as many photos as you like (i.e. "Unlimited"). But all of them will be re-compressed (a 12MP photo will remain 12MP but will be changed/compressed so MD5 hashes will no longer match). Photos larger than 16MP will be downsized to 16MP while also being compressed.

"Original". This will count against your storage quota so if you run out of space, you won't be able to upload any more photos. All photos will be left untouched, regardless of size. The MD5 hash will remain the same.
Yeah, kinda what I said in the other posts and what I showed.

I was just clarifying that if you use the free unlimited tier, your photos will be changed, no matter what the size (under 16MP or over 16MP, they all get re-compressed). This point wasn't clear in your exchange with quikah.

It's only when you pay for storage that you get a bit-for-bit backup of your photos (well, if you need more than the 15GB that's provided as standard, that is).

Got it. Yeah, I do pay for the 100 GB plan, it's $2/month, and gives me a nice area to backup photos at full quality, and share with friends/family. I want to migrate to OneDrive, but the sync client in Windows 10 is just plain garbage.

Ordered the Moto X Pure Edition for my wife yesterday.

Thanks for all the help!!!

Did you buy it at Amazon for the $30 off or customized it at Motorola ??
I was hoping Motorola would at least gave $50 off and I would have ordered one.
Amazon $30 was better than nothing but you couldn't customized it.
