on a more serious side, if they're doing the deuce, it's usually not long enough to bring reading material... don't they eat healthier or some shit?

What is an XPS1300?

Are you talking about an XPS M1330?
You're lucky the laptop still works.

Either get the service manual from here: http://tinyurl.com/5p5kxf and do the transfer yourself or put up a craigslist ad asking someone to do it for you, shouldn't be more than $100 in labor if they are reasonable.

I would replace the hard drive too or just avoiding putting any irreplaceable files on the laptop and wait for the hard drive to die out. (Make use of warranty there if possible.)

Yep, it was M1330. It's the case around the LCD that is cracked and off the hinges. Hopefully since the LCD itself is intact, it will be only around $200 to fix everything, and they will clean up everything else while at it.

Reminds me of the commercial where the guy is on his cell phone while peeing in a urinal, he's holding the phone to his ear with his shoulder, it slips and falls into the urinal and he ends up peeing on his own phone.

Bathrooms + portable devices = fail

An eye for an eye.

You must now drop your wife. She can tell people she fell into a door.

Ehhh... I know you guys are joking and stuff, but she's pregnant, and already tipped over accidentally yesterday (balance becomes delicate). Give her a break. I'm ranting here, 'cause I don't want to lay into her too hard.

Dude! Get her a netbook to toss around. MSI Wind can be had for like 200 bux, or an Acer 1410 SU2300 Dual Core (for youtube and porn). That way if she dropps it or accidentally poops on it, it wouldnt be such a big loss.

This is why after being married 9+ years and having two kids any laptop I buy I get complete care. I have had two laptops get broken by accidents. The first time the laptop fell off the chair and right into the end table corner and cracked the screen. All covered under complete care. I have had the same laptop get broken twice by my kids. Wife leaves laptop plugged into to charge, kids come racing around her chair and rip the AC plug out of the laptop damaging the charging area so it will no longer charged. All covered under complete care.

Bought my wife a nice XPS1300 with all bells and whistles.

She took to reading with it in the bathroom. I warned her nothing good would come out of it, but goddamn it was impossible to change her.

Eventually, of course, she dropped it on a tile floor.Laptop works fine, and monitor is intact, but case is cracked, and hinges broken.

No accidental warranty. Cost to fix? $559. A little over one third of what laptop cost in the first place.

FFFUUUUUUU....

Fix it yourself you worthless guy. What did you do, check your man card in?

I've done a chassis replacement before, as well as a hinge and bezel replacement, for less than $150.

I prefer to fix cars and things around the house. Laptops - I'll leave it to the techs at Dell.

obviously too late for that

This is why I don't own a laptop. If I ever NEEDED one, I could just get a netbook or a cheap old one. I hate the idea of a computer that can just break if you look at it wrong.
