Wife dropped a laptop. Not very happy

Bought my wife a nice XPS1300 with all bells and whistles.

She took to reading with it in the bathroom. I warned her nothing good would come out of it, but goddamn it was impossible to change her.

Eventually, of course, she dropped it on a tile floor.Laptop works fine, and monitor is intact, but case is cracked, and hinges broken.

No accidental warranty. Cost to fix? $559. A little over one third of what laptop cost in the first place.

FFFUUUUUUU....

Things could be worse. Your wife could be just an illusion, and you're suffering from schizophrenia, and you're actually punching yourself in the face right now.

Why would you take a laptop to the bathroom with you? Why would you read in the bathroom? Can't spare a couple of minutes?

So she wanted to some light reading on the toilet while dropping the kids off at the pool? At least she didn't drop it in the toilet.

What is an XPS1300?

Are you talking about an XPS M1330?
You're lucky the laptop still works.

Either get the service manual from here: http://tinyurl.com/5p5kxf and do the transfer yourself or put up a craigslist ad asking someone to do it for you, shouldn't be more than $100 in labor if they are reasonable.

I would replace the hard drive too or just avoiding putting any irreplaceable files on the laptop and wait for the hard drive to die out. (Make use of warranty there if possible.)
