I just installed CS: S, I tried at different resolutions but I get lag, not net lag, like the comp can't handle it. Even on lowest settings. I am getting 130-150 frames per second and 20-40 ping...I shudn't be getting this lag, are there drivers I am missing or something? I installed the latest ATI catalyst off the main site..

I don't get this lag in any other game :( Whats going on?

The lag is because your CPU has become self-aware, and upon realizing that it is being used to run CS, it tries to kill itself but can't because it is just a CPU, so it sits there spending about 75% of its clock cycles bemoaning its fate and wishing it could run a good mod, like TFC.

Seriously though, the "lag" could be the result of an audio config problem, a slow HDD, or too many spyware/other applications eating up your CPU time.

Couldn't agree more. Every time I try CS I end up thinking "if I could just RJ over this guy", then I remember that there is no cap, and no real team play.

Back on topic, I'd look at your broadband service. DSL can be very flakey, and if your getting 150 fps the issue is not your computer.

I had the same problem.

Its shutter.

Disabling fast writes worked wonders for me.

Here's an alternate solution:

Uninstall CS:S
Install UT2k4
Profit! :D

Fist off, do you know how to get into the bios?

I'd just search for it, shouldnt be that hard.

Take a look at your motherboards manual to figure out how to enter the bios.

Yes...press DEL at startup, I got into BIOS, but couldn't find it.

My 2.5 cents: It could be related to the server you're on. I find that whenever I'm experiencing lag then other people on the server are experiencing the same thing. It could be a limitation of the server's hardware if there are a lot of other people playing at the same time. Next time you detect lag shout out to the other players and ask if anyone else is seeing it too. If there are others seeing the same lag you are then there's nothing you can do other than to try another server.

Your hardware is very capable of running that game superbly.

My advice is to try playing on another server. Actually, try it on a few different servers and note your experience.

I got the same problem with that map and Aztec. No net lag, but like the PC can't handle it. I don't get it all the time but more on some maps than others and it's always in the same place.
