widescreen or full screen dvd

so, for you people with non widescreen tv's do you usually go for the widescreen format DVDs or full screen? I mean, widescreen is cool cause u can see more, but the resolution is narrow and looks a bit funny.

just curious. cause im about to buy
this
or this


i usually just stick to full screen
 
Fullscreen. I feel like I'm missing stuff with widescreen on a 3:4 screen. I'm missing stuff with fullscreen, but at least I don't KNOW it as much.

But one thing is certain... Pan & Scan is OBNOXIOUS!

you're missing stuff with widescreen?? WTF.......u make no sense.
 
Widescreen is better even on a 4:3 display, you'll miss some of the action in full screen.

Edit:
Watching a LOTR movie (2.35:1) in 4:3 is utter stupidity.
 
yeah just umm stick with full screen yes.

i mean why would you want to pay for less picture? i want my whole screen to be covered.

Widescreen only if that is how the movie was originally shot in. Some movies though, like T3 were shot in 4:3 and you end up missing stuff in the widescreen version .

The director intended for you to watch it on a large screen in a large movie theater (in a state of awe at how wonderful his/her movie is). He/she didn't make the movie for you to watch it on a cheap twelve-year-old 13" TV. Though he/she is happy that you are doing that, of course.

Also, movie-making is a collaborative effort. Many, many people have worked hard to get this film to you to watch. One of those many, many people is the pan&scan technician. Pan& scan is as much of an art form as directing. Wouldn't you want to watch the pan&scan in the aspect ratio that the pan&scan artist intended?
 
I used to go fullscreen only, but finally realized that I'm missing out on most of the movie by watching fullscreen. so now I can't stand to watch a movie (unless the OAR is 4:3) unless it's widescreen. unfortunately I bought the first two theatrical releases of LOTR FOTR and TTT in full screen and really regret it now. I went ahead and bought ROTK theatrical in fullscreen just to follow suit. I'm selling them as soon as the ROTK EE comes out though 🙂
