I have a 27" wega and I ONLY go widescreen. like everyone else said, you dont get the full movie with the full screen version. also, my next TV I get is going to be a WS tv, so i'm planning for the future as well 🙂

widescreen only

if you want to watch in FS a few dvds will automatically crop the image for you in 4:3 so why not get the best of both worlds if you prefer FS then your dvd's won't be worthless when you buy a HD TV

Widescreen only if that is how the movie was originally shot in. Some movies though, like T3 were shot in 4:3 and you end up missing stuff in the widescreen version .

T3 was shot in 4:3? Doubtful.

edit: Terminator 3 was shot in 2.35:1

Learn what "open matte" is and get back to us.

Well I didn't see any differense between the fullscreen version of T3 and the ones shown at the cinema.
Yeah I know what 'open matte' means.

Of course I could be wrong.

I hate to say it, but you are. The web is filled with comparison shots of the female terminator. In the 4:3 version you can see her tits. In the 2.35:1 version you can't see as much.

If you do a side by side you can clearly see more info on the top and bottom in the 3:4 version, which means the movie was shot in open matte, and the matte was removed for the 4:3 version.

I wish they'd publish the fact that when they do 4:3 open matte, etc, like the T3 example...

I happened to rent it in 4:3 and enjoyed it but thought I was missing stuff. Now I realize I saw extra. That's f-d up right there.

🙂
