I've heard that you can buy an attachment for the wide mouth ones to turn them into a narrow mouth, so that's what I prefer. I have a wide-mouth though.

Wide-mouth. I hate the "glornk, glornk" noise of water and air changing places with the narrow-mouths.

*edit*
easier to clean, JZero brings up a great point.

I'm not sure what the narrow is, but I voted for it since I'm thinking of the nalgene bicycling water bottle that I use.

I've got a wide-mouth. It's a lot easier to pour unsweetened Kool-Aid mix into...makes for a tasty sports drink with just a dash of Splenda.

Gah.... I'm torn. I use a narrow mouth for easier drinking. I always manage to spill with the wide. Then again, narrow is just small enough so ice cubes won't fit in it.

So, the "Water Bottles" of the 1980's are now called "Nalgenes?" WTH?

Guys, it's a freakin' WATER BOTTLE. It's plastic, has a screw on lid with a squirt cap and it holds WATER.

Nalgene my ass. You're paying $$$ for a freakin' plastic water bottle I could buy for $.99 at the Dollar Store.

Nalgene bottles are made of Lexan, so they don't warp and are damn near impossible to break. If you're using the water bottle to go to the gym, it doesn't really matter much, but if you were to go hiking or biking with it, a tough water bottle is useful.

I agree that a lot of people get the branded stuff who don't need it, but for people who are into serious outdoors activities, having a bottle which won't break is important.

As with (almost) all "trendy" items, it has a valid purpose, and many people don't use it for that. See: SUVs.

nalgene's are trendy now? gah, not nalgenes

people buying cheap imitations.. that's trendy

I use my wide nalgene, and i do it with pride. At the low cost of 5-10 dollars, you get a waterbottle you can keep, in some cases for life. The insert is pretty cool, but i find i walk straight enough and have the control to be able to drink out of my widemouth without spilling. Plus when playing sports, sometime i like a little coming off teh side, just a personal thing i guess.
