Why you shouldn't clean your hands after using the bathroom in a public restroom.

Sure they do. It's not visible dirt I'm talking about, it's germ and bacteria from other people / animals. You touch all sorts of stuff during the day that loads of other people have touched. Doorknobs, phones, other people's hands, binders, paper, coffee cups, keyboards, desks etc. etc.

Washing your hands on a regular basis is the best way to prevent illness.

Skoorb, you've outdone yourself this time. This thread is excellent! I have one other suggestion that hasn't been mentioned yet ..... why bother wiping at all? If you don't wipe, you don't get any on your hands. So what if you smell like $h1t the rest of the day, at least people will leave you alone.

People say I'm messed... but... I take kleenex in with me in my pocket... do my duty... grab kleenex, make a makeshift glove and turn on faucet, wash hand, grab another kleenex, dry hands/open door knob and walk out and immidiatly throw the kleenex away.

Cant stand the thought of having someone elses poo on my fingers...

the point is scientists found that corporate and public bathrooms are cleaner than your kitchen because janitors make sure everything is sanitary regularly, hence you are more likely to get ill from your kitchen than the public bathroom.

i sure hope Skoorb doesn't use the restroom BEFORE he bites into that subway sandwhich

Its funny, I use the paper towels to turn off the faucet as mentioned above, then I use my foot to open the bathroom door.

Just think about the particles that get launched into the air when you flush the toilet, do you want that on your hands when you eat or touch your face?

Fecal matter is full of bacteria, so I always wash my hands when I go #2, regardless of how clean I think I was able to keep my fingers. But #1 - unless I pee on myself, it's not worth washing. As Scoorb pointed out, urine is sterile.

Now for women, I can understand washing after #1, because although the urine is sterile, the genitals are not.

Seems like you have a bad case of OCD Skoorb... Fact is, most guys DON'T wash their hands, so there's probably more bacteria on the door handle if anything. So you touch the sink handle that other people touch, I doubt you would be getting enough bacteria on your hands to get you sick. In any case, I always use hand sanitizer (Germ-X) periodically at my cubicle... haven't been sick in over a year with no flu shot *fingerscrossed*
