Not at all - obviously my post was a generalization, and there's no such thing as objective beauty. That said, I do think the categorical statement that she's "ugly," as distinguished from merely saying, as you have, that one doesn't find her attractive, almost invariably springs from insecurity. By way of illustration, I have never, even in the height of her fame, found Cindy Crawford attractive, but that doesn't mean I'd call her ugly (many people would have said she was the most beautiful woman in the world at one time), just that, for whatever reason, she doesn't click for me.

FWIW, my GF looks nothing like Paris Hilton, but I have to say (and my GF agrees, as it happens) I think Paris has one of the most beautiful faces in the world - I don't think I've seen a bad pic of her - and from what I've seen in the infamous video, her body is just as perfect.

I disagree. There are a number of women out there who are just godawful ugly, just like there are guys who are equally ugly. Telling such an ugly girl that she is beautiful may be doing her a disservice, as it perpetuates a myth and sets her up for a fall later on.

I agree with your point, and knew that by giving an example (Paris Hilton), people here would reply to the example as opposed to providing logical answers to your questions.

I've also come to accept that this is how Anandtech is. If someone wants to call someone like Lindsay Lohan ugly (a strong word IMO, as opposed to merely saying, "She's not my type") then so be it. I think she is UGLY. She is way to skinny (looks like a crack whore) and i do not like blonde's. Yes i would merry her IF i had a chance. hell why not? she is rich! but other if she was poor hell no i wouldn't.

Not everyone thinks being tall, skinny to the point you see rib bones and Blondie makes a women hot. I like women who are short, have some curves to them and that wear glasses (yeah thats odd. I have always been attracted to women that wear them) and red hair.

As has been rehashed many times in this thread your standard of beauty differs from ours so of course there is going to be a difference of opinion. I'm White but I prefer dark skinned women (Black, Spanish, Italian, etc). Therefore, blonde haired, flat chested, no booty Paris Hilton does not conform to my ideal of a perfect woman.

Beyonce, for instance, is infinitely more attractive to me. I don't have to subscribe to your notion of a perfect woman because I have my own standards that suit me fine.

Well we know 'personal preference' but 'ugly' is a harsh word but to each his own I guess.

She to me isn't ugly. She is not in my definition of 'beautiful'. She is too thin and her face bone structure does not do anything for me. But she is far from ugly.
