Why were the last 2 matrix movies released the same year?

does it matter? they were two of the worst movies ever made (with a particularly special achievement in suckitude going to Matrix 2)

because Matrix 2 doesn't even count as a movie. It was just a bridge between the first one and the last one.

I don't get it either. It would have been smarter for them to release them a few years apart so that A) they could have made the third one better based on feedback from the second, and B) so people would have a couple years to forget how shitty the second one was.

This is what happened with the Star Wars prequels. Well, B at least.

in the original 3 screenplays there was no time skip from end of 1 to the start of 2. since everything was more or less happening in actual screentime and they knew they were making 2 sequels there is no benefit in waiting years between and having your actors age .

mind you the watchowskis did a rewrite on both scripts when a couple of the cast members died. the original 2 script picks up right after the end of the first movie and has neo just do the burly brawl realizing that he'll likely have to kill millions of matrix pod humans in order to defeat the machines.

Because that's all the time one needs to take a dump. I wish the guys who Mae 2&3 had been run over by a range rover after the first one so that they couldn't have made anymore movies.

It was almost Dr Zhivago compared to the 2nd one.

....so that's like, The Bridge on the River Kwai?

:hmm:

Maybe? :hmm: I can't tell if that's an insult to Kwai or not (I love Bridge on the River Kwai).

So they just filmed movies 2 and 3 in the one go then?

Same, while 2 was the worst, the three of them were all good movies, with the first being the best obviously.

In most trilogies, the bridge movie, or the 2d one, typically is the "worst" of the three. 1st sets up the confrontation, 3d is the climax and resolution. 2d just advances the plot.
