I see others bitching about things but I seldom see constructive critism.
Criticism of any kind doesn't seem to be appreciated, even if it's constructive.
I have noticed this myself.
The only thing I can think of that the mods can really do to make this place better would be to increase their consistency and try to be more heavy handed on the trolls. There are dozens of posters that have never said a positive thing to anyone for any reason and I really think that if the mods just became more uniformly heavy handed on the truly nasty people around here that we'd all be better off.
This is something I had trouble understanding at first.
Let's say there are 20 Mods. A simple problem could be handled 20 different ways. This is where inconsistency comes into play. Or at least what people see as inconsistency.
Mod 1 might ban someone for calling someone a name. Mod 8 might not think the name was so bad. Mod 17 might laugh and think it was deserved or funny. Who sees the thread first and acts on it? You could see how is times 20 might look like inconsistencies.
So you say, "OK, let's have a set of rules that all the Mods have to follow. That will give us the consistency".
Well, here in the US we have a Constitution and many, many laws. We can't agree on many of them and the same thing would happen here. This place is just a microcosm of the real world with all the same problems.
There is no easy answer, but there is a reality.
We are guests here and no one is here against their will. If we don't like it we can leave or tolerate it. The Mods can run this place anyway they want. Good or bad, fair or not. It's their sandbox.
For those who say it will be run into the ground and everyone will leave, you are delusional. This place is here to stay til Anand tires of it. How many boards have sprung up because of this place and how many of them have 142,994 members? Or 1429 for that matter.
