The west has a fairly standard idea of religion, one that has coexisted with the rise of human rights.
That bond should not be ignored. Other parts of the world try a hell of a lot harder to kill those who offend them.
Maybe some credit is due for those who turn the other cheek and let our part of the world modernize.

Christians didn't stop killing in the name of god until fairly recently; take some time to ponder the logical structure of the first part of this sentence. The more traditionally minded ones in contemporary times are only stopped by the rule of law imposed by students of western liberalism as mentioned. Eg. the Cruz crowd rather enthusiastic about empirically determining if sand glows.

So how do you feel about Obama and Hillary, who armed and trained and promised support to the Islamists inside Syria and therefore enabled a particularly bloody civil war?

Boom, Trump started as a pretty dislikable person. Even as billionaires go, he seems petty and overly ostentatious. As a businessman, he seems particularly vindictive and again, petty, with particular skills in doing deals with largely his profit and largely others' risk. As a man, he has consistently valued women only (or at least personally) primarily as ornaments and sex objects. As a political figure, he has consistently leaned toward the emotional, brainless demographic (a tactic more commonly seen on the left.) As a celebrity, he has consistently been petty and, well, tacky, a reality TV personality similar to Billionaire Boo Boo and "professional" wrestling. (But I repeat myself.) The reasons cited are certainly valid, but only icing on the cake.

I hope the guy turns out to be an excellent President, but there are plenty of more legitimate reasons to dislike him.

Should we chastise the sore winners and point out that hubris has a way of biting people in the ass? I wouldn't be so quick to revel in Trump's win when you have no idea how well he'll do.

Who's reveling in his win? I'm just enjoying watching those who talked badly about anyone that didn't support Clinton have to deal with her loss.

Of course no one has any clue how well he will do even all those on the left projecting doom and gloom. Even though I didn't vote for Trump, I'm with Tom Hanks on this. I hope he does so well I would want to vote to re-elect him.

Unfortunately the tone he's already set is appalling. It's one thing to hope he does well, it's another to not acknowledge that so far he has done terribly and set things on a severely negative trajectory.

Yes because when Americans talk about 'the majority' they are referring to the 538 members of the electoral college.

Don't be deliberately dense. The majority voted for Clinton and it wasn't close.

Does not matter if you like someone or not. Trump was elected by our constitutional process just like every other president before.
