It's not Trump, it's the loss of control. Anyone that ran and won that is having as much influence against the culture the left has crafted would be just as big a target. A blog with commentary that includes quotes from a post on Reddit that sums it up very, very well. Read both the blog and the Reddit post. Both links are included. Oh, and for the slower among us, this is all commentary, commentary based on opinion.

Why the left hates Trump so intensely

From the article:
A useful perspective is to regard this as a religious conflict. Cults behave exactly the way the left is behaving when a member leaves the fold.
What other cult has the left embraced so fervently? Climate change, but that's a subject for another thread.

From the Reddit post:
Why is Hollywood (in particular) freaking out so badly over Trump?

First, because he's a Republican who might actually do the things he said he wanted to do. But second, because this is the first cultural victory the right has scored since Reagan stumbled into one in the '80s.

The left is used to losing political battles. They scream and cry over these but they don't truly panic, because they know that as long as they maintain their hammerlock on the culture, Republicans can't really change anything.

Blue Team Progressivism is a church, offering you moral superiority and a path to spiritual enlightenment. As a church it's got a lot going for it. It runs religious programming on television, all day every day. Every modern primetime program is like a left-wing Andy Griffith show, reinforcing lessons of inclusion, tolerance, feminism, and anti-racism.

Watching a 90-pound Sci-Fi heroine beat up a room full of giant evil men is as satisfying to the left as John Wayne westerns were for the right.

The Blue Church controls the HR department, so even if you don't go to church, you have to act like a loyal churchgoer in every way that matters while you're on the clock. And off the clock, on any kind of public social media platform.

Jon Stewart and John Oliver are basically TV preachers. Watching them gives the same sense of quiet superiority your grandma gets from watching The 700 Club. The messages are constantly reinforced, providing that lovely dopamine hit, like an angel's voice whispering, "You're right, you're better, you're winning."

Hollywood award shows are like church talent shows - the skits and jokes aren't really funny, but it's fun to look at the pretty girls, and you're all on the same team.

I dislike drumpf because

1. FUD. He cultured and nurtured the whole fake-news construct while mobilizing sub cultures with an agenda in all the lesser instincts of man with his birtherism campaign. That is some deliberate nasty scheming right there that should tell you alot obout the psych profile of your president elect.

2. A guy that has so much still stiffs the common working man out of a pay-check, threatens to go to court unless he settles for half.

3. Not paying taxes, the whole scam around his tax returns

4. Russian ties. Smelling alot like treason(and pee?) to me.

5...6...7...8...9

This guy is a certified scumbag that has somehow convinced half of america that he is the middle classes champion.
He is not the champion you need but he IS the champion you deserve.

The left hates Trump because they were promised the end of Tea Party conservatism, and were assured legislative and judicial dominance that would mold the country around their values FOR ALL TIME. They already bought the balloons and the cake.

And some @sshole with no political experience shattered their dreams and slayed their annointed queen using nothing more than vulgar nationalism, vague populism and Twitter.

They are mad because they never got to eat their cake.

Like the "left" has ever been in "power" in the Democratic party (other than, to a degree, during the New deal days). Op should try a stand up act. <snicker>

The modern American conservative, ever the victim of the nasty "progressives". ROFL

Well Obama technically could have been, until he sold out to the Clinton wing of the party, and allowed Reid and Pelosi to swap hope and change for legislative arrogance.

I think far more interesting is the unenviable position that american conservatism is now stuck in, ideologically obligated to protect Trump and Putin as their own in addition to the klan types.

Guess in fair this is an instance where I somewhat agree they're the victim, much as it may be of their own making.

I always find these threads funny where some useful idiot like boomerang parrots what one ultraconservative told another ultraconservative about how liberals think.

The main reason the left dislikes him is substantially the same reason everyone else dislikes him: he appears to be emotionally unstable, incompetent, and consumed by petty grievances. There's a reason he is starting out with a 37% approval, and it's not because of magical liberal polling voter fraud. You don't start at 37% unless you have serious problems.

OP the truth is that everyone would love Trump if it wasn't for the liberal MSM bias that makes them hate him. He's done so many great things for the country since his nomination, how could anyone not love Donald Trump?

It's an odd accusation as I don't even hate Trump. I find him ridiculous but I don't hate him. I hated Bush and still do because he is a war criminal up to his armpits in the blood of innocents. Trump, not yet.

In fairness to the OP, liberals do tend to hate Trump for the bigoted authoritarian backward aspects of this country that he represents, same reason as why the OP sorts love him.

Yes, this is true. Quite a few chose not to vote for him. Good thing the Russian Psy-Ops caused some Dems and Independents in the swing/rust belt state to vote for him instead of Clinton.

No, pretty sure #nevertrump was a predictable failure given conservatism's track record on principled integrity.

When you think leader, it's ostensibly someone who represents the positives/virtues in a group, so it's completely revealing when for a certain half of the country that's someone like Trump.

"loss of control" is the reason?

How about that he's the most vile person to have been elected US President since its' inception?

The "cultural" victory of pathological lying, racism, sexism, braggadocio, elitism, ignorance, greed, uncharitably and overall scumbagery.

You know, what Jesus would do.

Bravo on the win. They really knocked it out of the park.

It's sort of like how every culture appropriates christ in their likeness, with Asian Jesus for the moonies. Well, Trump is basically Conservative Jesus.

This kind of thread says much more about the OP than the reasons why the left loathes drumpf. And if the op would pull his head from his ass, he'd also recognize the fact that the right wasn't very fond of drumpf either.
Yet despite all this lack of fondness he won. Is that explainable in the world of Blue State Progressivism? I mean beyond the usual which is declaring your teams astronomical levels of astuteness and everyone else's near total ignorance. (A shtick that lost you the election BTW.)

Is what you proclaimed a coping mechanism? Do you think you'll ever move past the first stage of grief?

Seems trivial to explain given all the racial resentment numbers and the coinciding nature of his campaign.

The reasons are obvious why Dems do not like Trump. Lets talk about why republicans like me hate Trump. Also he is not the most incompentent president every, Ulysses Grant was and he had a lot of corruption in his tenure.
