However they love to harass you over stupid things like: sitting on the sidewalk, being in a state park after 10:00PM, driving a car without a front license plate.

Ever gotten stopped while walking to a friends house cause a cop thought u and your two friends were up to something? just walking down the side of the road (no sidewalk) and bam flies out of nowhere gets us in the spotlight and then asks to search my friends backpack... and found a bottle of orange soda.. and a water bottle.. (we were 14 by the way)
You probably looked like hoodlums :) I was stopped when 14 once with my friend. That said teens do get a hard time from cops because, unfortunately, a lot of teens need to be kept in line and out of trouble. Not saying you're like that but when you become a little older I don't think you'll feel harassed by the POH-lice.

im not 14 now, that was 5 years ago

Be glad you're not in the UK.

An ambulance driver got done for doing 104mph on his way to a hospital with an organ transplant.
A government bloke got let off doing 103mph because he was late for a goverment meeting.

Back when I was in middle school they gave my mom a ticket for letting me hang onto her car in our couldesac on my roller blades.
Uh... ;)

Reading this thread it sounds to me like cops are actually quite forgiving when it comes to tickets...

Somebody gets caught speeding... it's the cop's fault, of course. So what does he do next time he's pulled over? He gives the cop an attitude, because he knows the law better than the cop now, of course. He pays his salary, right? Cops don't pay taxes. They sit around and eat donuts and give tickets. And when there is an actual crime, they aren't there instantly, damn them!

It's cool to hate cops. All the "cool" people hate cops. Rappers, gangsters, druggies... they're cool, so people want to be like them. Hell, if a cop ever tried to arrest me, he'd get his ass kicked. They're so fat that I could kick all their asses. Wait, those bastards shot me! God, they can't tell the difference between a gun and a cell phone 50 feet away while I'm screaming at them... complete idiots!

I like to refer to this as "polarization". Cops suck! No you suck! ad nauseum.

Large margins of discretion afforded to police officers for lower level crimes equates to an interupt in the rule of law. Three guys speed, two get pulled over, one gets a ticket... despite the fact that they all commited the same crime. Is this the rule of law? Is this egalitarian?

Well, In America, I know at least that members of congress are exempt from speeding tickets when they are on their way to congress, while it is in session.

I was only 15, I didn't know what was going on. It was my dads bike and if my dad was home he would have ripped that cop a new one. He was pissed that this cop confonscated the bike of a 15 year old. I should also mention he called in backup and had another squad car come and a motorcycle cop come.

Then again just a few weeks ago I was going about 90 in a 60 and got pulled over but the cop let me off with 69 in a 60 saying he would let me off but 30mph over is just too much.

Number 1 = bad cop
Number 2 = Nice cop

i dont like taking the risk that i get the asshole cop so i just try to stay away form them altogether

Because 99% of the cops we've all encountered are pricks. They ruin it for everyone else.

A lot of times cities rely on tickets for revenues and cops have qoutas. If you get pulled over for expired plates in some small texas town, I forgot what it was, but I was driving my friend's car and got the ticket it's like 120 bucks. Fines go all the way up to 300 for things that are like 80 dollar fines here. I think a lot of times the laws that cops are forced to enforce or when they're forced to meet their qoutas and pull people over for only going like 5 over all the anger gets taken out on the cops because they're the actual enforcers. If you get a photo radar ticket you don't blame the people for passing the laws. You say somethingl ike I hate photo radar...

Most of the one I dealt with are polite and helpful. I ran into a couple who were pissed off because "we bothered them" even though it was their job to respond to a calls. It is few like those that make the others look bad.

A friend of mine was leaving a club late at night and the light was red to turn left. He waited a revolution out for the light and it didn't turn so he ran it at like 2 in the morning with no one coming. Well, a cop was watching, pulls him over and tells him he saw the whole thing and gives him a ticket. He asked what he was supposed to do and the cop says find a different way out. There's no excuse running red lights even if it's not working.

I respect all police officers and the job they do, except the little pricks that use tickets for revenue generators

ya the niagara regional police I find are pretty cool except one that threatened to break every bone in my body cause i was doing illegal activity (smokin a j - not illegal anymore though! thank god for decrim) in a parking lot down at port dalhousie. The officer was putting this flashlight right in eyes and i thought he was gonna nail me with it..those things are huge..some mid 20 year old prick.

The American justice system is a travesty. We have a huge number of nit-picking, outdated, or impractical laws which exist only to give the police power over you. If laws against speeding, for example, were enforced to the letter of the law every time, the speed limits would have to be raised. In the current situation, you are actually expected to speed (I can't remember the last time I saw a car doing 55 on the beltway) with the understanding that you probably won't be pulled over, and if you are, what happens to you is at the officers discretion. Unjust laws and inconsistent enforcement mix together and form a system where the rule of law is only a pretext. Cops didn't create this system, but they perpetuate it.

You, sir, are a dumbass. Please don't breed. I wish that cop had given you a solid whack with the old Maglite.

It's not all cops, i just mostly hate the highway patrol or any police hiding in speed traps trying to nail speeders.
