Why PC gaming is better in terms of games, money savings and relibility.

What is a good Gaming PC for $700 United States that can run modern games looking better than console?

Honestly, we could write essays on this. Until you experience it for yourself, it won't matter what we say.

A proper PC is quite the investment, but I've found it to be well worth it since my last build. I haven't much touched my 360 or PS3 if I had a PC version. PC software price alone has been the greatest perk.

Last I checked, my PC did more than just run scaled-down games and Netflix, so quoting the price of a computer and of a console isn't apples to apples.

Also, this. And this. And this. And this. You see a pattern emerging?

Note: I live in India so I used the most popular online retailer here for pricing. Console titles are typically $60 here (on par with the North American pricing) but PC titles are usually $20. $30 for Limited Editions/Collector's Editions stuff.

And of course, there are Steam specials. $20 for all GTA games from GTA to GTA IV: EFLC? Yes please. $12.99 for Civilization V? Yes please. $9.99 for Bad Company 2? That's what I paid for those games.

PC gaming is superior for FPS and especially RTS games. It's also better for online multiplayer and especially for free custom content and mods. I like to say that PC gaming is about freedom whereas console gaming is about a controlled experience and pay-to-play for online multiplayer and downloadable content.

When you're not playing a game you can browse porn on a PC.

Actually....if you have a PS3....

PC gaming is better in terms of games, because there are more available on the PC then any console. You can buy games from the 90's on GoG, play free flash games in your browser, free ad-supported MMOs, and even play old console games on the PC (N64, etc).

PC gaming is better in terms of money savings for many reasons. Brand new 360/PS3 games that are $59.99 are $49.99 on the PC, and many times you can save even more through use of Steam sales, Ebay sellers, or hardware bonuses. Plus you can play literally a thousand free games, from Microsoft Spades to some Korean made MMO... how many free games are available on the 360 or PS3?

PC gaming is better in terms of reliability, because a PC has discrete parts that can be changed. If you get a RROD on the 360, you have to send the whole 360 in to be repaired. If your PC doesn't boot, and you have some tech experience, you have options (troubleshooting, switch out hardware, etc). In my case, both with a 360 and a PC, where the DVD drive failed - Open Tray error on the 360, didn't work on my PC... I had to send in my 360, and fixed my PC by ordering a DVD drive on NewEgg that arrived 5 days later.

These are superficial answers. Consoles are great, but PC gamers know a gaming PC is better, and never the two will agree.

Real gamers use both and don't worry about which is better.

Also, what is great about PC's is that they can do things like this (crap photo though)

The simple fact is there is nothing a console can do that a PC can't do better and a PC can do a lot more then any console will ever be capable of doing. There are over one billion PCs in the world today and rising and they get more powerful with each new generation. Within five years I expect portable tablets to be capable of playing games like Crysis and within ten years you'll be able to buy them for $50.oo from Wall Mart. The latest estimates are PC game sales will surpass those of consoles within 4 years.

It isn't better, it is different. This debate is stupid and you may as well start an argument about whether a spoon is better than a fork.

Making use of both offers a far better experience than going out of your way to justify why one is better than the other.

One word. Quality.

It has options for better quality controls, better quality graphics, better quality sound and better performance.

Although to what degree you get those things depends on how much you invest on your hardware and if you take care of it and learn how to use it.

Objectively one is better than the other at different tasks, spoons are objectively better at eating soup with, and forks are objectively better at eating spaghetti with.

PCs offer an objectively higher quality control, video, audio and performance providing you put in the necessary investment, so if you want the best of any of those things you'll need to use a PC.

What consoles offers that PCs don't is simplicity, if you're not knowledgeable enough to use a PC or are disinclined to for whatever reason then consoles are fantastic, plug and play, nice and easy.

I am not sure if you are agreeing or disagreeing with me.

Well I agree, I guess. They both excel at different things, so which is better depends on what you expect to get from the platform.

If you're judging by some specific criteria such as which has smoother frame rates, you absolutely can say one is better than the other, we can measure that objectively.
