PC gaming is very very expensive. My last 3 or 4 video cards cost more then my xbox... on the other hand, I didn't turn on my xbox for over 3 years till I bought a plasma tv.

It isn't better, it is different. This debate is stupid and you may as well start an argument about whether a spoon is better than a fork.

Making use of both offers a far better experience than going out of your way to justify why one is better than the other.

This. In large point, I decide which platform to buy a game on based on which of my friends is playing on what. Sometimes that's the 360 over Live (MW3), sometimes thats my PC (Starcraft 2). Having both is nice indeed !

Well i have gone from a pc to a ps3 for gaming. Atleast for the last month all i been using is the ps3. Graffix are good enough. I play on a Sony 32xbr6 (same used for pc)

PC is couple years old but still viable. recent upgrade to vidcard. AsusP7P55D pro mb
Intel I5-750 LGA 1156
8gig ram
Evga GTX560 1024mb
Windows 7 - 64 bit

having fun with ps3 for now. only game i was really playing on the pc was Everquest 2.

sure you can get games cheaper online (steam, Direct2Drive) but lately most games seem to come out on all 3 formats (ps3/xBox/PC) and the pc version is a port of the console.

Recently tried Fallout New Vegas and i cant really see much difference in the way the game looked compared to when i played Fallout 3 on PC.

i searched online and found some review site that compared xbox-ps3-pc versions of Skyrym and they looked pretty close. Ended up buying a ps3 version of game even tho i had already paid for a copy of the pc version via pre-order.

so for me(for now) the ps3 works. plus i can trade in games when i am done with them. Try that with the pc version.

In a similar vein, I was looking at comparison videos of BF3 for PC and 360. The 360 had some particle effects that were worse, shadows were not as smooth, and some of the cut scenes studdered a bit. But seriously, I saw nothing that was going to make me jump out of my chair and say 'Damn, the PC version is night and day superior in every way - its like going from VHS to DVD !'.

I used to be a PC gaming fanatic. I built a new computer every year (and sold my old one to friends). I would buy every game the day it was released and I loved it.

As I got older, then games I wanted to play felt more and more consolized, so I caved in and bought a XBox 360. I'm quite happy playing games now on my 55 inch TV from a half laying/sitting position on my couch. Skyrim is my current king and I'm crazy addicted to it. I don't care about graphics, I care about gameplay. I'd much rather have Fallout 1/2, BG1/2, or Planescape: Torment over Dragon Age 2 any day.

The only things I miss are as follows (in order of importance to me)

1) Old games - I miss BG2, Planescape, NWN, starcraft, diablo, etc. This only is what keeps bringing me to the point of building a new PC.
2) Mods - I miss moding games after I beat them for new experiences. Not a big deal to me though. In fact in some cases mods ruined my gaming experience as I would often mod out things I didn't like before I had beat games.
3) Keyboard/Mouse - I'm still not that good with a controller. I miss my keyboard/mouse .

All and all the cost vs fun factor is now in favor of me with my TV and 360. I still miss playing old games though...

Well I agree, I guess. They both excel at different things, so which is better depends on what you expect to get from the platform.

If you're judging by some specific criteria such as which has smoother frame rates, you absolutely can say one is better than the other, we can measure that objectively.
Yep, consoles excel at being shitty.

I play console and pc games. Some great games are only on console or instead I buy them on console to play with my friends since none of my friends play games on a computer. Both have their pluses and minuses.

1. Controls.

A. Mouse > Right Stick
My Mouse can do more actions than the entire right half of the 360/ps3 controller.

B. Being allowed to set controls to my liking and play style.

C. One Key = One Action. I hate that consoles resort to button merging most of the time for two or more contradictory actions.

2. Graphics.

A. Anti Aliasing: It smooths out all the edges and makes the game look that much crisper. Forcing AA even on the oldest games through Nvidia Control Panel or Catalyst Control Center, makes them look better.

B. Graphical Parity; Even on console ports, PC graphics look so much better.

3. Freedom.

Mod Tools, Dedicated Servers, Etc etc.

The PC version of New Vegas has mods that make it look waaaay better. Same will go for Skyrim.
Personally, I always hold off on Bethesda games till someone fixes the bugs, gets out a hi-res texture pack and improves their customary crappy UI.

Seriously?

The console version has a resolution of 1280*708 and runs at 30fps, no DX11, etc...

But this has all been repeated ad nauseam...

It's not better, it's not worst, it's different and it's up to personal preferences.

The consoles by themselves aren't a "problem" either. The "problem" when there's one concerning consoles and PC is when a game is ported from the consoles over to the PC with less than minimal PC-specific/exclusive features that would take advantages of what the PC has to offer on its own that the console cannot do.

I prefer PC largely because its just more flexible.

Like FPS? Vastly better on PC
Like strategy games? ONLY available on PC
Like MMORPGs? MOSTLY only on PC
Like simulations? ONLY available on PC
Like mods/custom content? ONLY available on PC
Like better control/input options? PC

...after that, it's pretty much a wash. If none of those things are really your cup of tea, I can see just a console being more than sufficient

You can't definitely say it's better, for example some casual player should buy console + some game instead of Hardcore computer when he can't use the full of it's potential.

When FPS first started showing up on Consoles years ago, I wondered to myself "How is that even going to work without a keyboard and mouse". Then I saw one, and thought, "They expect me to play like that using the controller."?

I still can't play an FPS on a console. It was a struggle playing GTA4/Oblivion, but for the most part I got used to it. It still frustrates the crap out of me when I can't control it the way my mind wants to.

Steam deals is why PC gaming is better. Once MS figures this out then maybe consoles will be better. MS needs to do deals like 75% off games and the like.

If MS can improve the download selection by adding their entire collection that would be a good start.

Also storage needs to be bigger. We need terabyte hard drives to store the games.
