It would bring the price of oil down and selling public land at auction would pay off debt held by the public.

It would basically kill OPEC. What's wrong with killing OPEC?

Not that I am against privatizing public utilities, but how would privatizing public municipal waterworks destroy OPEC?

General Jack D. Ripper: You know when fluoridation first began?
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: I... no, no. I don't, Jack.
General Jack D. Ripper: Nineteen hundred and forty-six. 1946, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.

We need to be careful with the water supply. No one should "own" it. Land rights do not give water rights in most cases. This is so people cant suck out the water table under an entire area.

Plainview: Drainage! Drainage, Eli, you boy. Drained dry. I'm so sorry. Here, if you have a milkshake, and I have a milkshake, and I have a straw. There it is, that's a straw, you see? You watching?. And my straw reaches acroooooooss the room, and starts to drink your milkshake... I... drink... your... milkshake!

Well, I was more specifically talking about the oceans. Crude oil comes from the depths of the sea, and if people owned the oceans, there would be competing land/water owners, and thus competing prices for oil.

OPEC is a group of oil exporting countries in the middle east and they price fix, so no one can sell oil cheaper due to the fact that waters off-shore aren't privately owned. Even if we allow BP to offshore drill, they're part of OPEC, so prices won't really go down enough.

Let's privatize air space too. You should own the air above your house and get to charge every airplane that flies through it. And each airplane would have to dynamically pay each land owner they fly over. Now that's true freedom! :hmm:

I am extremely impressed that a single person can come up with so many completely new and unique yet hilariously terrible ideas. I mean seriously, how does he do it? The sheer quantity is astounding.

I agree. Then that would kill the FCC.

So who's going to manage that system? Who's going to ensure planes install and use these chips? Who's going to process the funds? Or do you expect every private owner who wants to be paid to send up a flare every time they hear a plane and the pilot to sprinkle bills out the window?

It's not so hard really.

End welfare! Destroy cable monopolies!
Abolish NASA! Make Satellite TV companies pay their own way!
Disband the military! Save Europe from American oppression!

:p

Actually many Americans already get water from private companies, and it is terrible. My water comes from a private utility, who basically holds us hostage and charges what ever they feel like. They have raised rates so many times, and we are paying 3 to 4 times higher than near by people who have public water. People are having to chose from drinking water or buying food here.

Where I am in California private companies have already been given ownership of water and are charging people huge fees for it. The poor and elderly have to choose to spend money on either water or food, not both. Very sad.

I live in cali as well. What area is this?

I would mobilize the local government and kill that company.

Why am I laughing at this depressing image of a certain 420 person scavenging around the endless landscapes of trash the rich leave heaped up outside of their "complexes" of libertopia desperately sucking at empty water bottles grasping his throat in thirst?

Sacramento, the local government refuses to do anything. They said they have no plans to ever provide water service to us. This for the unincorporated areas, the incorporated areas get water from a public utility. Over half a million people are serviced by this private company.

Have you never wondered why I drink only distilled water, or rain water, and only pure grain alcohol?

Though interestingly, where I am we have public electricity. Our electricity comes from a government entity instead of a private company.
