bad examples as they aren't kids shows imo.

Reread and recomprehend.

Itchy and Scratchy is designed to be an exageration mocking violence in today's cartoons. What I said is that the level of violence it shows isn't far from the truth.

Whatever you do, just avoid HBO2. The roomates left the TV on, and when they came back a little after 10, Real Sex was on, and there was a couple right in the middle of it.:p

this is a huge pet peeve of mine.

Its ok to show on ABC Saving Private Ryan uncut with all the gore, death, pain, horror, dismemberment, blood, terror on primetime is perfectly ok BUT....

Show shindlers List uncut where they show full frontal nudity of men and women jews in a concentration camp and the network is flooded with complaints.

So i guess that death, war, killing, murder and all the other forms of violence is acceptable, but show a breast or pubic hair and its damaging to kids.

I could do with less blood and gore and more titties on TV but that doesn't change the fact that I don't want a little crack ho Barbie doll from McDonalds for my 3 year old to play with.

but they can play with toy guns and action figures that kill each other on tv? that distinction makes no sense to me.

Personally, I don't care about the excessive violence, but then the "crack ho" barbie as you put it doesn't bother me either. I think your perspective just seems skewed for no real reason. You'd rather your 3 year old grow up a murderer than have sex?

It's easier for parents to explain why violence is wrong, than for them to explain why nudity/sex is wrong sometimes, but okay other times.

Because people know that youre not supposed to shoot people, no matter how much its glorified on TV. Meanwhile, sex is something your supposed to do, and socially allowed and expected to do. Therefore showing tons of sex is obviously a bigger "threat." Same with curse words. People are not stupid and know there is a big difference between cursing at someone and stabbing someone.

Give people some credit, they are not all zombies that do what TV tells them to do.

WTF are you talking about? Toy Guns = Murderer? Crack Ho Barbie = Sex? I don't think so.

Aint America grand? Violence on TV is OK, but show some leg, and "OMGWTFBBQ!"

I honestly don't get it. Violence seems like it would have much more of an impact on people than seeing sex/nudity. Sex is a part of life, why keep it so taboo? Sure violence is a part of life too but it would be nice if it wasn't.

But, but, but, if people see sex they might want to try it!

So would you sit down and watch a porn with your child/parents?

Watching porn? Like oral sex and anal penetration? No. But watching a love scene in a movie? So what? Your parents does it, your parents know you do it, or will one day. Nudity and sex is absolutely normal behavior, why stigmatize it? At one time you couldn't even show a wiggling of the butt on TV... i bet you wished we had those days back, huh?

No, watching regular porn with vaginal penetration. You know, that thing we all do. Why would you have a problem watching this with your parents?

No, I'm not saying you should be ashamed. I'm just curious whether you would watch actual penetration with your parents. What about your children? Would you watch a sex scene in a movie that clearly showed everything with your children?

That's the general consensus, that seeing these things around all the time desensitizes you, so that you are more prone to doing it. You're absolutely correct, neither REALLY leads to the other, so wtf is the problem? If my kid has a barbie that's wearing short shorts, what's the problem?

If it was part of the movie, yes. It would obviously be rated appropriately, so i wouldn't watch it with 10 year olds. But NC rated, then yes, that's what you would expect.

Let me ask you, if you were watching a movie with your parents or kids, and then a sex scene comes up, what do you do? Jump up and quickly turn off the TV? Get up and yank your kids out of the seats and walk out of the theatre?

But why rate it so that everyone cannot see it? Hell we do that already here in America, so what is the problem? Since everyone does it/will do it then why would you not watch it with a 10 year old?

Because kids need time to grow up.

Because it does take a level of maturity to understand it. I've never professed to absolute sexual freedom or acceptance, but like Deeko says, it's absurd to allow the level of violence our media portrays, but nudity and sex is so restricted... when one is universally abhorred, but nudity and sex normal.

And you ignored my question, what do you do when you're sitting with the family and a sex scene unexpectedly comes up? Do you immediately turn it off and apologize to your kids or parents?

No I would not apologize for anything, why would I. If I were watching it with my parents and a very graphic hardcore sex scene came on we would probably have a good laugh at it. If that same scene were to come on with my child I think I would have some explaining to do.

I didnt mean for 5 year olds, I meant for older kids. I also mean for adults, I don't know how old you are but I don't see why mature adults are willing to keep sex taboo amongst themselves.
