Why is violence so commonly accepted?

This thread is sparked by people flipping out over the little whore barbie thread, and the little girls with writing on her ass thread.

Am I saying I think these things are something we should accept as ok? Nah, not really, I'm not offended by it but I agree that its too far.

However, none of you seem offended by the insane amount of violence in kids shows. Itchy and Scratchy on the Simpsons isn't even an exaggeration.

Personally, I am not really offended by either of these, I just find it mildly amusing where you people have your priorities.

I honestly don't get it. Violence seems like it would have much more of an impact on people than seeing sex/nudity. Sex is a part of life, why keep it so taboo? Sure violence is a part of life too but it would be nice if it wasn't.

in europe violence is no no, but sex is ok..

I think europe has it the right way..

our biggest sport event consist of people trying to ram each other over... the biggest sport in europe is soccer, where playing dirty is extremely frowned upon

however they show boobs on billboards...

And some provocative strip tease isn't? Maybe not meant to be jerk off material, but clearly designed to give you the same effect even if just for a moment.

Extremes? Porn is just people having sex, everyone (or at least almost everyone ) does it. It's a part of life.

So instead of showing the actual act, we should dance around the bush showing sexually charged scenes of nudity without actually showing the act itself? If you aren't willing to sit down and watch two people engage in sexual intercourse with your children or your parents, how can you argue against the sexual taboos present in America?
