I rather think Ford did a good job on re-styling the once ugliest car in the world Taurus..

I also think the new Maxima has a kick butt rear end with the new Altezza tails. When the tails were red only (for example 2000 GXE and GLE) they were not as nice looking, but with the black around the outside (2000 and 2001 SE) and with the Altezza style (2002 models) they look alot better.

<< is confused with a Maxima being faster then a car that does a 100mph 1/4 mile >>

What car? not a Mustang GT...

they do ~90mph at best ...

I never understood the altezza thing... why does everyone want their headlights to be all but clear and they want their tail to be clear... just dumb to me.

They do a low 14 second 1/4 mile, if you do the math you have to be going 100MPH

You why everyone recommends Maximas/Altimas?

Name one car that has the interior room of the Maxima for the same price, has the performance for the same price, has the handling for the same price, has the reliability for the same price??

You guys all compared the Audis to Maximas..and you know what?..I'm happy you do that...cause your comparing a Nissan Maxima, which is a mid-size economy car, to a freaking up-scale luxury marque straight out of Germany! You say a A6 is faster and has better interior, well it DAMN well better since its tens of thousands dollars more expensive!!!

Quite frankly, I'm quite happy you compared a $25K Maxima to a $45K Audi...instead of comparing it to a $25K Camry...it shows that the Maxima is way ahead of its main competitors..and is fighting off the upscale luxury marques.

A Mustang GT does not do 100 MPH quarter mile.. that is ridiculous.
Maybe a cobra... just because it does 14 second or whatever does not mean there is an equation that makes it 100 mph....

that's getting into 60's muscle car territory... which a crap Rustang just can't do.

I thought the only *major* difference between the Cobra and the GT was that the Cobra had an independent rear suspension vs. the GT's live axle.

The wonders of bracket racing, where a 17s car can beat a 10s car if one of them ran faster than their dialed out time...😀

I have heard stories of maximas beating the '94 Mustang GTs and keeping up with the newer ones..

I personally like the new Mustangs..they look badass!

Okay so the only other way to do a 14 second 1/4 mile is they have traction like no other car in the world, it's RWD is so magical it's got more hook then an AWD... I don't think so, I've been drag racing long enough to finish in the top 10 people of an over 400 car event, from experience I can tell you a 14 second 1/4 mile is either 100mph or it comes from the factory with a slingshot on it's a$$

I'm not a Nissan boy... i'm a Toyota boy...😀... but i am impressed with the Maxima and the Altima. If you knew anything about Nissan...racing history and whatnot...i wouldn't be looking at Nissan as some POS. They are impressive in their own right...although not as technologically advanced as Honda... they do have cars that can hand you your ass. Comparing a Maxima to an A4 is ridiculous...why don't you just go all the way and compare it to every freakin car that cost twice as much or more.

And the fact it has alot more power.. at least the last Gens did.. like the 96 year or so..

Last I saw times on a Mustang GT must have been on a 96 or 97 model.. and it did like 88mphin the 1/4 or so.. maybe 89.. it was ~90 though.

My roommates GTP hit a 14.2 @ 96 mph I believe.

Current Mustang GT's are capable of mid 14s stock, high 13s with minor mods. Cobras hit mid to low 13s stock and high 12s with mods.

I am not a Nissan fanboy, but I know a good car when I see it. The Maxima offers a LOT for its price. Its performance is nearly unmatched for its segment.

I like Nissan because they produce a GREAT product for the $$. When it comes to trucks, the big Iron boys still take the cake. When it comes to passenger comfort, the imports are generally better.

His refrence was a street race, I'm pretty well verse with bracket racing my team is CAM research, we did that well and one of our races our team leader was not able to make it so we lost the points he could have made over 400 drivers there, I was only on par with the new lightnings and was beating 12 second cars, my problem is I'm cursed with redlight's, I get to about the 4th or 5th round and hit a .496 <- thats the one that knocked me out in the last event :| but I can easily keep a low .5 light, hitting my E.T. is very simple with my ride as I race in 4x4. 😀

Uh, you can get an Audi A4 Quattro for less than 30 grand. I will start laughing at you in 5, 4, 3, 2, HAHAAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

Wheeeeerrreee???? Useeedddd??? If you wanna go that route I could get a Supra Turbo used for $30k and that will definitely hand your ass down to you. 🙂 Audis are impressive as well... keeping in mind their LeMans sweep and their incredible swap of the whole rear portion of the R8 in less than 6 minutes... but gawd we're talking about a Nissan here... a Nissan that could do so much more for the price you're paying for it.

<< Uh, you can get an Audi A4 Quattro for less than 30 grand. >>

Who would want one for even that much? what a waste of money... I could get a 2002 Max for like $34K Cdn

That equates to like low 40's in American for the A4.. and it's not as nice of a car overall in size and usability as a Max.

I don't compare Audi's to a Maxima mainly because Audi's are overrated and are in a different class anyways.. I compare a Maxima to an Intrepid, an Impala, a Taurus/Sable, Camry, Accord... and it's better than all of those, I know because me and my dad went out driving all of them when he was looking for a new car. It came down to an Intrepid ES (great financing rate on American cars) and the Maxima... The Max was just a better car and my dad paid a tad more and got the better of the 2. now, 2 years later the car looks and runs and does everything like it did off the lot.. not that it shouldn't, but it's to be expected with such a good car like the Max is.

I hate to use em cause car mags suck for the most part but here is what MT got

At the dragstrip, the '99 GT's performance numbers, though great for a Mustang, are still not tops in this muscular crowd. Yet, 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds and a 14.0-second/100.2-mph quarter-mile run is as good or better than any stock Mustang we've ever tested

1999 Mustang GT

The reason the 1996 mustang got such crap times was because the 4.6 was brand new and the intake on the new Ford SB was nightmarish, the 99 GT is only 1 tenth behind a 96 Cobra the intake was so horrid on the 96

Ok: From Edmunds.com

Base: 2002 Nissan Maxima SE 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 6M)
MSRP: $25,989

Base: 2002 Audi A4 3.0 quattro AWD 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 6M)
MSRP: $32,665

If people who bought Audi's knew that their car was being compared to a Maxima, I think they wouldn't buy it and settle for something more upscale. Its pure ignorance to compare an Audi to a Maxima. You just have proved that a Maxima is a pretty good car by comparing it to an entry level luxury car such as the Audi. Yeah and all those car magazines that stated that the Maxima's engine is one of the best V6's out there must be total idiots and fanboys too. It's a conspiracy I tell you..All these fanboys!

Actually, I like VWs, Mercedes and BMWs more than Nissan. They just have a better drive feel about them.

IIRC the latest threads where people said "get a Nissan" had The Maxima and Altima stacked up against a Grand Am and a Camary. Sorry, the Maxima and Altima ARE better cars. They have more power, better handling... and better reliablity than the Pontiac, but not the Toyota.

Personally, I'd rather have a Passat or Jetta, but then, I'm a German fanboy.

Maybe you should stick around longer than a month before you make judgements.

My friend, the new car sales manager I mentioned, bought his wife a '96 A4 (Certified used car) with the 2.8 because she wanted an Audi. I drove it and I thought it was very nice, but we agreed that it could use a "real" engine (we were spoiled by the 3.0L, 222 HP Maximas), but otherwise it was impressive, especially the ride, handling, and quietness. Then I looked at the back seat and I swear I jumped with surprise. I said, "OMG, it's so small," and I started laughing. He agreed with me, but his wife gets what she wants.

Recently, he brought home an '88 Lincoln Town Car trade that he paid $100 for. The Town Car's alternator went out on his way home, but he made it on battery power. He invited me over to check it out. It was parked next to the Audi in the his driveway. He doesn't have a charger, so we decided to charge it up using the Audi and some jumper cables. With the jumper cables safely hooked up and the Audi idling, we were standing around talking about stuff, enjoying some brewskies. Suddenly, the Audi just stalled for no reason. We look at each other with a "that's not good" kind of look and he hops in the Audi, checks the gas (there was plenty), and tries to start it. It started right back up, but WTH just happened? Little incidents like that do nothing to instill/reinforce confidence in Audi.

<< that stated that the Maxima's engine is one of the best V6's out there must be total idiots and fanboys too >>

I'd never driven a car with such a smooth sweet engine as my dads car (2k max).. It's no wonder it wins awards.. talk about pull too.. it's nice sitting at a light knowing you can take 90% of the cars that will pull up beside you...
